Carlton has welcomed its newest development coach for the 2026 season.

THE CARLTON Football Club is pleased to today announce the appointment of Ash Close as a development coach.
Close arrives at IKON Park with over 15 years of experience in football, including 10 years at the Collingwood Football Club as both an analyst and development coach.

Yep. It’s amazing that we’ve lost TDK, JSOS and Charlie in the same offseason and yet, it’s been a damn good last few weeks with the people we’ve brought into the club on field and off field.

Good to see the club beefing up development and restructuring the coaching dept.
thus s something we should’ve done when we undertook the rebuild 10 years ago, but finally we’ve got people in charge at the club who know what they’re doing.

Our youth is very good. Just needs proper support and I believe we are FINALLY addressing this area

I was disappointed to lose Power and thought we'd struggler to replace him, but the inclusion of Fraser and Ash has definitely put that to rest. Definitely a great addition. Ash and Baker should get the development side humming along nicely.

Really need a strong reserves side. Depth additions and proper development should help this dramatically

Happy to add to development, much needed but I also felt we were moving in the right direction under Power and we were starting to see the results. As they say, proof will be in the pudding with all our changes, as we have a great young list that needs to be developed correctly, including attituded and standards.

I've got everything crossed that Wright and Davies are setting us up for long term success - we flowering have failed previously and it's not acceptable any longer.

This is great. I think development has slipped and was actually better in the Ratten era.

In the Ratten era we brought over O'hAilpin, Tuohey, Sheehan and Byrne. All of them were able to be turned into differing levels of AFL quality players. Sheehan and Byrne never saw their full potential due to going home and injuries however they did at times play some good AFL football.

Currently Duffy and Monahan look nowhere near AFL level and barely premier country league quality.
