Was also musing on how good Murphy could be. Beyond being stoked about how well he has played so far the way he does it makes one dream of what he could become.

His skill ceiling is what makes him different. My best comparison would be Roger Federer.
In all seriousness with that close control he has and the ability to read a play before it happens he should have played soccer. Could have got a million a week rather than a year.

From what I saw on the weekend, his contest work is ridiculous, just not bash and crash
Super smart, like he plays on the edge of what's possible in physics and makes it work to his advantage before the oppo players have any idea what he's just done.

Bo will be a good player but didn't his kicking let him down a bit last year ?
Could be another Erasmus.
More powerful than Ras so he has that going for him but his kicking was always extremely concerning to me. WC have actually loaded up on strong athletes but bad kicks. It was a comment made on their draft haul last year.

The draft was such a deep one and we did a great job of holding onto that pick to deliver Reid.

Just a clever footballer.

There’s a ton of 100 game players who don’t understand the don’t drag it in rule, he is not afraid to knock it out to advantage…plus he may not have a booming kick but as a forward you’d love hitting up on the lead to him.

someone on reddit put together a highlight package of his game on the weekend

That Reid / Sharp play is even funnier than I remember. Everything Reid does is calculated to win the contest and give it to someone else. Sharp counters that ridiculous with a completely unnecessary and useless blind spin with no one tackling him before running into a WC player. Poor Jez...

In all seriousness is there anyone that would be disappointed if we had pick 1 and this is who we picked?

He passes the eye test. I’m yet to see an actual flaw. Even strength or conditioning he is able to work with what he has.

The only incredibly minor issue is I’d love this guy getting 25+ touches a game. That time will come.

Not much depth in his field kicking. Also goes for hard ones so does fluff the odd few. I think we've had this discussion in general but I reckon the reason he went so low was the recruiters not looking past the knocks (kicking not A grade other than creativity wise, shortish, not an obviously big tank or obviously quick) to the elite traits.
This ability he displaying now to win contests because he thinks faster than everyone else, then create by hand, did exist at junior level.
I think you must be right. He was Vic Metro's MVP last season, but clubs may have been cautious of getting a Valente or similar. It makes me wonder, for all the cutting edge technology they use at the draft to gauge propects' athletic profiles, do they actually test for footy IQ?

Thats the thing tho , even his ability to find the ball is a strength aswell.
Put up some big numbers in u18s, all the while still playing fwd for decent stints .

Only needs his tank to get up to AFL level and from there he should be starting in the middle every game

That's a very interesting hypothetical

Honestly, hard to say at this point. Outside of Lalor and Langford there hasn't really been any other draftees setting the world on fire. At this point in time I would answer your question with a no but ask me again in 2 years and the answer might change.

That Jez spin looked good though.

That highlights package I’ve watched four times and could keep going. He has some Michael Johnson ability to kick the ball along soccer like and then scoop up or flick around by hand like that deft tap back when Jez went the impressive pirouette.

His kicks are perfectly weighted and instinctively knows when it is best to flick a handball backwards. Also some of those handballs over the top going forward…

What a selection at pick 17.

Seen him do that little soccer kick out of congestion a bunch of times to give himself time, that's the sign of a very smart player.

The high IQ players know when and when not to take possession, really separates the cream from the crop.

Even better was the fact that it was the shit Reid (Harley) who was his opponent at the time he did that is

This is super pessimistic, BUT - no doubt the kid trained the house down in the pre-season and deserved his spot, but isn't it so unlike JL to do so? Don't new draftees get the Peel treatment for their first season? lol

Like, is this too good to be true? Was he a worry about homesickness so we're playing him to keep him? Who did he support? lol

IT"S TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE

The whole family were Richmond fans.

On draft night his dad watched his club overlook his son three times before Freo took him with their first choice and in the time it took for the camera to work its way over to the family table he had chucked out his Richmond gear and jumped right into the purple.

Bless that Dad, would've been tough but respect the commitment straight away
