Has shown during the last four weeks, exactly why we got him.

Has a big heart for the contest too when he's on, Chad reeally willed himself into these past few games.

The example he helped set since the botched Clarko sacking will make a difference to our squad long term, the whole team lifted for a month and played some great footy. Chad was a big part of this, maybe even the biggest part of it.

Was disappointing to draw with the Tigers. But hopefully the side learns from this too.

Either way he's shown real value to the side for a month, and a decent reminder of why we got him.

May his form continue into next year, and long after that!

An elite end to the season. When he's playing in the middle he's one of the best players in the competition.

The question is why didn't we see him in there earlier in the season when we were crying out for it? And more importantly, will Mitchell keep him in there moving forward?

Since the Giants game where he was injured / return in round 19, he's averaging:

28.4 touches
4 marks
4.8 tackles
1 goal
2 direct goal assists
6 I50's
9.4 contested touches
5 clearances
418.2 metres gained

116.8 SC points

Whilst only playing 81% TOG

The question remains can he do it for a full season ? As opposed to a 6 or so week block like he seems to have at some stage every season ? Back end of 2019, start of 2020 and again backend of 2021.

Yep.

Last 5 games 2019 (25 possessions a game average). 9 lead up games to last five averaged 14 possessions game.
Last 5 games 2020 (16 possessions a game average). 12 lead up games to last five averaged 12 possessions a game.
Last 5 games 2021 (28 possessions a game average). 11 lead up games to last five averaged 19 possessions a game.

2020 was a poor season for Chad. Does he not like pre-season training? Late season form would be great if we were in the finals but 2019 and 2021 back your post. I imagine he improves on most statistics in the last 5 games of these two seasons (2019 and 2021) without looking into it in any depth.

He seems to have these blocks of form dispersed more evenly whilst at Port.

He wasn't really played in the midfield until later in the season each year. No real surprise his numbers are lower played up forward.

Needs to be played midfield from the get go. Been frustrating that he hasn't been.

If he's not stuck in the forward line of a bottom 4/5/6 team and is played in the middle then I think we will see that.

The forward experiment for Chad at Hawthorn needs to be put to bed once and for all, in his 3 seasons at Hawthorn all his best form has come as a midfielder.

Yeah unless we are playing at a blistering pace like Port used to there is just no point. We were playing probably the antithesis of what Port were playing.

If we want him as a goal kicker then fair enough, but we just have to play at a fast pace to get the best out of Wingard as a forward. Though I think we've all seen Wingard as a midfielder is the best kind of Wingard.

Is this true for his first season with us as well? I can't recall.

His soft tissue injuries are the reason he hasnt played more midfield time. He has been playing forward till the fitness team were confident he wouldnt breakdown. Its a pity. People talk about a point of difference in our midfield and Wingard is that. Hopefully his soft tissue injuries stay away and we can have midfield Wingard for the whole year

Last month as a full time mid went at 29.5 disposals, 1.25 goals a game, 8.5 score involvements, 4.25 clearances, 407.25 metres gained, 4.5 tackles per game.

This man is the damaging midfielder that we have been screaming for.

Last month or so of the season was outstanding!
Just about our best player in each game

Very exciting to see heading into next year. If he can keep that sort of form going we will have a very hard player to stop on our side

Yet another thing we can be excited about for season 2022

Elite numbers, he’s a keeper
