I'd reverse the Jaeger trade though to have pick 2 in this years draft + our 2nd pick in this years draft + picks 23 & 36 in last years draft. Tom Mitchell we got a good deal with pick 14, Brad Hill we got unders with pick 23. To be honest trading out Mitchell and Lewis has really done nothing though as its not like we have found any youngsters to fill the void, all its done is put more strain on Tom Mitchell trying to carry the midfield, hopefully he does not burn out by 27/28.
We may have got unders for Hill based on his form this year (prob best season ever), but about right for how he played with us.

Equally you could argue the Swans got unders for Mitch considering what a beast he is.

Tom is playing better than Mitch and Lewis this year, while it would have been good to hold onto Lewis, in the long term we did the right thing by them and us.

Hysteria reigns. This thread should have been closed after sense like this...
We traded out two blokes the wrong side of 30 for two blokes in the right age profile and talent level to keep the midfield going

Our first round pick last year would not have been better than Tom so I don't know why you bundle that up in your complaint

Our first pick this year had zero chance of helping us this year and we won't know until next year whether we are looking at a situation like Tom and this years pick.

Would you honestly give Tom back to the Swans and rather have whoever the Hawks picked in the team? No

So why do you worry about a pick that hasn't even happened yet?

This...

And all Sammy or Jordan would've done this year is stop the development of some younger players for a 2-5 spot boost on the ladder and a false dawn of where we really were at. The Eagles and Demons are hardly flying with them.

Having picks has won Richmond, Carlton, Melbourne and St.Kilda how many flags in the last 15 years?

Trading them was never about draft position, it was looking after loyal servants. I still scratch my head at the Demons giving Lewis 3 years, but alas good luck to him!

And this...

Cmon Jaegar! Get up son! We knee-d you!

Ive told jack not to let anyone know how jaegar is tracking. That way this moaning, whingeing and gnashing teeth can continue. I call in controlled crying i know the psychs say it doesnt work but i feel its the only option eventually they will tire themselves out

Here is radical thought why don't we suspend posting in this thread till Jaeger is named in the Seniors to play his next game for the Brown and Gold
Worse case scenario: He never plays again and we are not allowed to discuss the recruitment anymore?

If anyone is still upset about what we gave up then just pretend that what we paid for each of O'Meara and Mitchell was the other way around. (ie. O'Meara for pick 14, etc)

Alternatively pretend we gave up our first rounder from last year and this year for Mitchell, and the balance for O'Meara.

This way it doesn't seem as bad. Mitchell is certainly worth what we gave up for O'Meara, and also two first rounders (say pick 14 and pick 2).

Of all the things that happened in last years trade period, the Brad Hill trade is the one that throws everything out of balance.

Hypothetically speaking what do you think clubs would say if we offered Jaeger and pick 36-38 and demanded Picks 2,19,23 and 36 in return ?
At the end of 2014, then anyone would snap that up.

End of 2016, you'd want to haggle a fair bit.

In the middle of 2017, they'll laugh in your face.

Lets wait until the end of 2018.

No doubt it's a recruiting risk we took, but our recent risks in this area have failed pretty badly.

Burton is the only risk that's looking to pay off.

As much as Muston, Dowler get brought up in here, they were risks at the time we picked them, thinking we go them cheap due to their recent injury. Those backfired.

Honestly, what is the point of all this?

The only logical position, and this has been said dozens of times, is that IT IS TOO EARLY TO TELL!

Thats it...that's the only logical position.

Every thing else is just therapy for angst ridden souls... "if I talk about my worries, maybe they'll go away"

"but what if? "But what if?"

But what if your auntie had balls...she'd be your uncle.

As Abasi said, circles in circles in circles. Failing having to deal with reports, I'm out of this thread until he starts playing again.

Leaving you to it guys ...I'm going back in time to get our first pick back. While I'm there, I'm going to kill Hitler..

Silk payed off pretty well, he had a similar injury didn't he?

In think getting a guaranteed quality player in the draft is a much bigger risk.

I know others disagree, but I have faith that our medico staff know what they are doing.

Yet the draft picks we had instead of Jaeger would have turned out guaranteed guns?

Had a bit of a discussion on SEN regarding Jaeger last night. Apparently when he went to see the knee specialist in Germany it was one of the worst knees the doctor had ever seen.

was that 2 years ago he saw him? we can only hope our doctors have done their due diligence.

Why worry about Muston and Dowler now ? they're from another era
Posters have used them as arguments why drafting is overrated.

I'm pointing out that if you draft players knowing there's risk involved and they don't pay off, then it's our own fault.

Getting Jaegar in, ignoring the cost for a moment, was a risk. Will have to wait to see if this pays off.
