James Worpel (30 disposals, 5 tackles, 13 clearances)

"Worps had his second game with us and was outstanding with 30 possessions, including 12 clearances. We challenged him to get to work around the stoppages and he really showed us this week when he’s focussed on that - with his fast feet and agility in the stoppages - he can get to work. He had a massive influence on the game. Him and Finn were both two standouts."

People talking up what a breakout game Finn had, but for poor old Worps it's "come on, it was only against VFL North!"

Hopefully this is exactly what he needs to recapture the same at AFL level.

A lot of that is because everyone expects more from Worps. If Finn was a stock then you'd say he's ever so slowly rising whereas Worps would be described as he's fallen off a cliff and plummeted, plunged, dived etc etc. Still like any stock you hold and try whatever you can to get it back up again. Like most I want Worps to not just bang on the door for and return to the 1s I want him to kick it down with his form where selection has no choice but to select him. This IMO might take another 2-3 really good games at BH outside of injuries to anyone in the seniors and even then I'd like Long to be give a debut pending he himself isn't out too long.

Exactly what we wanted to hear. Hopefully he backs it up and produces another similar performance

Not sure if worpel has ever before been described as ‘agile’. Maybe vs vfl opponents but his lack of fast feet and agility is an issue at afl level.

Worpel's biggest issue is finding a role in the team that suits him.
He can play to a high standard as a ball-hunting mid - we already know that.
But is it enough for Sam Mitchell?

Maybe we see T.Mitchell moved on and O'Meara shuffled into a peripheral role, then Finn and Worps step into those roles.

In 2019 Worps was top 10 for average clearances and top 20 for average contested possessions. While average 26.5 touches and 5 tackles a game.

If he could play like that now it would go a long way to helping out our midfield troubles now and in the future.

Which is the most frustrating thing for me, we know how well he can play.

Difference between agility and speed, worpel at his best side steps most opponents

Both Worps and JOM seem to be good at getting around or away from the first oppo, but get caught holding the ball when they try to evade the second or outpace the second who chases them down from behind.

Hopefully he has another good week at BHH and gets considered for selection post that. Am a bit worried that both Worps and Finn's performances were over-stated given how poor North were in the game.

Sometimes you just need to flog a bad side to build confidence
