I’m torn on this. While I agree to an extent, it’s also entirely self inflicted. For example, if he had have been drinking and driving and hit someone, would our reactions have been different? I know that’s a long bow to draw, but just think it’s worth exploring where our sympathy starts and ends.
I understand where you're coming from, but sometimes it takes something traumatic to get someone with issues to seek help, though they may have always had issues. I had a good friend who was the definition of a functional alcoholic. He drank for over 40 years (until it killed him). had a successful career and a generally happy life. Never hurt anyone or was arrested until he got a Drink Driving ticket one night. Even then he was only sentenced to attend an alcohol program and allowed to basically continue his life because no one else was involved and he wasn't driving in a dangerous manner. I sometimes wonder though if he would still be alive had something occurred in his younger years to force him into treatment and perhaps gotten him off the drink. I guess my point is this sh!t can be complicated...

For clarification, I guess I'm saying that sometimes it takes an event or series of events to prompt someone to get treatment. It doesn't mean the issue needing treatment didn't exist prior.

I get and agree Jon has mental health issues, as a result of his actions.

I can be empathetic and I don't wish it upon anyone to get to a point to potentially not see a way out, but this is not a person that has battled Mental Health their entire life, as many in our community do, this is an entitled individual that because of his actions has recognised his career has come to an end. At present, Jon isn't able or willing to accept the responsibility for his actions.
Wouldn’t you say that his actions are a result of his mental health? The guy has propped up recovery staff for most of his career and persistent failure the result of hard work and hope.
The fact that he has gone over the edge and been hospitalised shouldn’t be a surprise.

He'll be interviewed by investigators shortly, then an outcome to follow.
He may even retire before that.
We'll know soon.
Yes, of course. But really there isn't any rush.

If the urgency is for us to replace him, that can be done now without any of the above actions

Patton has only one way out. Play AFL level and be good at it. Who would employ him or which junior footy club would invite him in?

I suspect he will be put on the LTI. I suspect he will be 'retired'.

He's only 27. He's going to have to work somewhere - cant see him being overwhelmed by suitors. I'd say his options are a pornstar or a prophet

Unless he's blown his money, he should have enough money to laze around.

Not sure if this has been posted previously - it's certainly not introducing any new information to the topic, I just happened across Hughesy's roast series last night n watched a few.. both Scully & Patto feature almost consecutively from 1.35 in.

Hughesy sprays the GWS Giants - YouTube

MOD EDIT: People with a sense of humour are warned that the video contains Dave Hughes. Viewer discretion is advised.

They should've shelled out & got a comedian in to lighten up the mood!
