He was our chief play maker off half back for a while, and showed some incredible composure, kicking and evasion.

Looked like he was going to become an absolute star. Lots of folks on this board were expecting him to tear it up on the wing once we got our rebounding half backs in the side again.

The wheels haven't fallen off, but he's not looked as sharp since he had that role in 2021. Would have to be injury related, surely?

I disagree, at no point has he been our chief playmaker off the HBF - all of Sicily, Scrimshaw, CJ and even Hardwick have been more creative.

He only played a few games off the HBF anyway.

He was rather impressive on the wing though, and I thought he looked like he could be a gem of a find. Now a few years on he still looks timid and reactive as a defender. It seems like he is always in two minds when he has to defend an opponent.

Yeah I recall him more on the wing early on

I think you're forgetting that time when a good deal of our rebounding playmakers were injured... Bramble was put there to rebound and create off half back. That was when he showed his best form, and he rolled on from there.

Injury hit that HB line pretty good in 2021 and I want to say CJ, Day, and Impey were out, and Sic was gone with his ACL....Bramble went back there and really tore it up.

He played prior, but he came into his own during this period. There's still this article on the website, but he also played 9 games back in 2022 before injury cut his season short.

VFL player by player R5: A review of each AFL-listed Hawk

Lachy Bramble (37 disposals, 9 marks)

“It was arguably Brambs’ best game for us since being back at VFL level. He was able to have eight score involvements and 30-plus touches. He was really involved offensively, and we were able to move him on-ball late in the last and he gave us some good running power and drive off there. It was really pleasing to see him find a bit of the footy around the clearances as well. He ended up with four clearances on the day and two centre bounces. He was being really positive for us in regards with his performance since he has been back with us.”

He has elite level potential as an outside runner/HBF.
The ability is still there, but needs to recover his form and confidence.
The team needs a Bramble at his best.
Problem I see for Bramble playing that outside runner/HBF role is that it's probably the spot where we have so much competition.

CJ, Mitchell can do it.

Bailey Macdonald looks a likely type too

Any half back flanker currently not in the side is fighting a battle to get in. We may need to move a few of them. Bramble played the last qtr getting some CBAs last week at Box hill good for his development.

I see him as a mid in the making. His ball winning this season has jumped up bigtime. He's improving. Can see him carrying the pill out of the middle.

If he makes it. I can only see it as a wing. It’s the one place on the ground where his poor contested game and lack of defending can mostly be covered.

While utilising his strengths of running and ball use.

I've always felt that wings need to be way more defensive than they're given credit for. The best wingmen work as hard to get back as they do in attack.

I agree. The ability of wingmen to push into defence is underrated. Especially by the best of them. They create an extra number all over the field due to their work rate.

I feel Bramble might be able do this given his running power to get back and limit the available space for the opposition forwards even if he can’t intercept like the dees Brayshaw does.

I just can’t see him making it in any other position for us given our abundance of defenders who are better players than him.

Was training with the mids for part of yesterdays training, btw.

Good luck to the kid

Wil go well at the Doggies I reckon. They love to throw multiple players through the midfield/half back and this will suit him.

I was a bit harsh on Bramble at times this year when he was being played in front if Scrimshaw but that was more a frustration at the selection panel than at Lachlan himself.

Definetly has enough talent to warrant a spot on an AFL list.

Will be a very good pick-up for the Bulldogs, I'm guessing.
Was up and down this year but I thought he was getting his mojo back towards the end.
Watching the Box Hill final against GC, I thought he was a class above all of our other players (listed).

I can understand his delisting as we have a multitude of half-backs cum wingman, but for my money he is a better footballer than a handful still on our list.

Good luck to him.

I struggle to name one that Id rate higher.
