So much more frustrating that it was caused by a talentless hack like Caddy... offers nothing, then robs the game of an emerging star. He should be ashamed.
Yeah and they gave him a bit extra to go on with as well. Classy small kid was always at risk of getting dished out some hurt and extra opposition attention.

Don’t understand why you’re being a tosser about this, but sure here’s an example of what we’ve avoided:

Gold Coast are currently missing 3 players with ACL injuries - Rory Thompson, Matt Conroy, Zac Smith. Added to this Elijah Hollands is still recovering from an ACL tear pre-draft, and Matt Rowell is also out indefinitely with a knee injury.

1 per year is probably league average.
He is not being a tosser he is on the money. I would take that injury list (Freos) any day of the week over:

Mitchell : Season
Impey: Season
Sicily: Season
Day: ???

All these injuries can result in a player never returning to the same level of fitness as well. Impey effectively missed last year as well as he struggled to return. Almost 2 seasons.

I would take along list of soft tissues over knee/break injuries in a trade any day. At least there is a light an the end of the tunnel and the ability to adjust loads and training methodology in the short term.

This sucks. We do seem to have had a wretched run with serious injuries to our best or most promising players in recent years. Richmond players mauled Day in that tackle. It’s the risk for a bloke his size. Pretty flat he’s going to miss much of this season, was looking forward to watching his further development this year.

From a purely on field perspective despite losing Sicily and now Day we are still well stocked in that half back position.

Confirmed fracture.
As fans we are all going to have to very patient until we get more news on this. The key in all of this will be the severity of the fracture and which part of the ankle /foot it is. There's so my bones, ligaments and tendons in the foot that even with a fracture there's a chance we might see him back in the second half of the season or at worse next year. When Clarko said in his presser that they don't know if he'd be out zero weeks, one week or six weeks he wasn't lying at all.

I'm sure we can all agree that no matter the wait time the main thing is that young Will comes bigger and better.

We've had our share of injuries against the Tigers during their purple patch. They target us physically.

It's time that someone words the team up on not being beaten up by them.

It wasn't so bad this time around. But that work they put into Day was intentional, and they got the result they wanted.

Shades of Mitchell in that final against them a few years back.

Surely we got scans done on Will on Monday. Does it really take this long to get scans and info back, or is our club becoming sloppier with information.

All that matters is Day's recovery and rehab. It does not matter whether we heard about the extend of the injury on Sunday night or Wednesday morning!!

There is a difference between getting a scan and understanding the results. We made a comment early to say it was serious and again now that we understand the results and the implications. The surgeon is the one who we needed to see to get the understanding.

i heard a rumour he is having pins put in his ankle and it might be around 12 weeks with maybe a 2 week training block which has been common in recent past at Hawthorn, i guess we will have to wait and see?
See him next year then.

Having had of 38 screws, plates and pins myself I'd now advise any kid to not do it, take the extra time and let it come back naturally. Esp that region.

But what would I know? just my experiences with screws and knowing that a surgeon is a surgeon and surgeons want to surgeon at every chance to practice - it's what they do.

Yeah I'm sure the surgeon the club is using is going to put his desire to perform a surgery above the best interests of a high profile patient. Sounds like a great way to build your reputation as a surgeon within the elite sporting industry.

Yeah mate - of course.

Pretty simple buddy, surgeons do surgery - they get paid for it - if it doesn't work 100% it was a really really hard one - if it does they're legends - they actually can't lose, mate - but I'm guessing you've never had injuries requiring plates, screws, pins, and know nothing at all about the nerve damage, muscle damage and other complications these things cause all around the area - but by all means enjoy taking my post out of context, since all I said is let heal naturally and write the season off, but after all, who is going argue with a surgeon hey, they're the "experts". I can assure you their strike rate isn't as high as people think, esp with ankles.

To be fair though you're probably just an average person. Why shouldn't they double dip?/s

Tin foil hat stuff right there.

Just because you've had a surgery doesn't mean your experience makes you an expert on the realities of the medical processes in play.

You paint a picture of Will Day hobbling into the surgeon's office on crutches where the surgeon then tells him, "Oh yeah you've got a big ol' crack in that foot. We're going to need to schedule you in to stick some plates and screws in that bad boy. Don't look so glum, this is my favourite surgery!"

The reality is that multiple doctors are involved in reviewing Will's case (club doctors, specialists, surgeons, etc.). The various treatment options are laid out, the benefits and risks associated with each are explained and discussed. Second opinions may even be obtained. When the patient understands and agrees on the course of action then that's how they proceed.

If it turned out a surgeon wasn't providing the patient with sound advice (eg. pushing unnecessary surgery or otherwise misrepresenting the risks involved to get the patient to choose that treatment option) then even if the surgery was a success they could end up in hot water for medical negligence.

Haven't met one yet who didn't have the best intentions. Doesn't mean surgery was absolutely required to fix it - it's more just to speed up the process. Which is all I've been saying but legends be legends on here at taking things out context, esp if they think cheap "likes" are in the offing.

Like this gem
Tin foil hat stuff right there.

Then there is surgery to remove the plates/pins/screws...creating more scar tissue which usually means more nerve damage as well......but I'm sure the people having a crack know all this first hand and can read, instead of spinning it thinking they're smart.

Will Day was hobbling around in mild discomfort, not blinding pain associated with a snap, if it's gonna heal but take an extra 6 weeks naturally then do it natural, every time. Esp the ankle area. Of course people being people means they will take the "proposed" shortest length of time when given "options" by a "expert".

Who wouldn't it?

But I am allowed, without knowing the full details (like everybody else) of the injury, to have an opinion from a lot of experience.

DRRRRR REALLY mate - I thought he went to the local pub for his surgery and rehab.

I can assure you mate, very very few people say NO to a surgeon. When you find someone who does, let us all know, hey.

And when you've had as many screws and plates as me matey, it actually does make me a expert on how it all works, but you believe what you want.

Carry on, you know everything.

There's an old saying - to a man with a hammer, everything looks like a nail. A lot of medical professionals do get blinders when it comes to what they're good at, surgeons are no exception. It doesn't necessarily mean that they're wrong, but it's the reality. It's precisely how people with chronic injuries that could be solved with a few visits to a physio end up on painkillers for the rest of their life.

That said - there's definitely a lot more that goes into treatment planning for athletic professionals, they'd be getting input from more than just the surgeons. I'd be confident that if a course of action has been decided on it's not simply off the back of the surgeon's recommendations alone.

Has a course of action been announced yet? I've missed it if it has.

Just trying to determine if we're arguing over things we know or we don't know.

Agreed.

But the surgeon usually wins in the consultation process - esp if it's a "easy" opp that means you get back quicker. Because any opp that is actually required to fix the problem is not open for "options" in any case.

Either way, all that matters is Will Days health, and I have zero doubt that this has been taken into consideration by all and sundry.

This kid is special precious and Hawks better be getting a few different specialists in a room to decide on the best long term outcome for young Will ..... not just from one dude.
