What? Pick the ball up in one hand? Most players do that.
I don't mean scooping the ball up off the ground with one hand which yes most players can do.

I mean picking the ball up off the ground from its top (just using your fingers)

He could also run at full tilt whilst just palming the ball in one hand and fending off with the other arm.

Like I said I am struggling to think of many other players who could do this consistently in the way Koutta did in his prime.

Probably a reason why players don't do it. Bit stupid honestly, high possibility of error, not sticking it and running past the ball, fumbling, slipping. Imagine Kouta trying to do that under 2023 pressure, he'd be dispossessed almost immediately.

Been great to get 15 games into him thus far.

I still have no idea where he will end up, but I don't think its as a backman. Has some amazing physical attributes coupled with a healthy dose of confidence
HFF for me, great mark, speed and kick. Has looked best when in that part of the ground.

Didn't have his usual running bounces but I thought Weddle played a great game defensively yesterday, added a bit of physicality I hadn't seen from him yet
Definitely one of his best defensive games. Took a couple of ripper grabs. Growing in confidence. Can’t wait until he starts rotating through the midfield.

Very good game from Weddle. Nice balance of defence and attack. He is developing a better understanding of when to get involved in the contest and when to stay on the outside. Has a great all round game - excellent overhead, effective by foot and able to break lines with his run. Needs a bit more composure and awareness on the run but that will come.

Lots to like but he also needs to develop his tackling in game. Its been a bit of a weakness for a while.

Weddle reminds me more of David Mundy with more pace (both drafted as defenders) - expect him to become that big bodied with explosive midfielder.

Wish they would hurry up and extend him as well..................

Mundy was a smooth moving player with a lethal kick, he was all class.

I don't believe Weddle has the same poise or class as Mundy, though he definitely has the size to develop into another strong big bodied (and much more explosive) midfielder like Mundy had.

Been saying this for a while, they both have/had the ability to find or win the footy, take giant sized pack marks, weave through traffic, and break lines at will almost. Weddle definitely fleeter of foot, but not as neat with his kicking at this stage stylistically.

Their gait and running style is similar, but Josh a lot more explosive and dynamic. Both spent their first year playing back.

I’ve gotten a little heat because the comparison isn’t super exciting. But the resemblance is uncanny at times imo.

Weddle going to generate a lot mote highlights though, already his long range goal kicking and dash portend to him finding another level. The strength looks similar, but athletically Weddle has a lot more to work with. He might ultimately find the same level of class Mumdy had too.

Good first season, needs to work on his handballs over summer to get the most out of his give and go.
Good observation. I don't think he's alone.

One of the things I noticed is that we now have a lot of very tall guys in the team (also quite varied heights between Moore and, for example, Nash). The boys need to recognise who they're handballing to and put it at the right height for the recipient, not just vaguely handball it in the direction in the hope someone can grab it at the right height.

Sat just behind/near the bench v Freo. My favourite spot to watch a game like with my sons JBNPL soccer. At ground level near the action you can smell the goanna oil hear the action/voices see the players come off/on with their facial expressions and observe what the coaching group are doing. But Weddle what a unit an athletic specimen unbelievable to think he’s only 19. And he can play don’t worry about that ………. give him 50 games this kid could be anything!
