Why would I be happy that he's not playing for my team.

I have a right to support my club in the SANFL. I love my club as much as you love yours. People are allowed to support teams other than Port Adelaide. If the other teams didn't exist you'd have no one to play with.

Would you be happy with Horne Francis playing for Richmond?
You honestly think that’s the same thing?

A more apt comparison would be when Crows poached the late Phil Walsh (RIP) from Port to be their head coach when he was extremely highly regarded assistant. We suffered a fair bit when he left.

Functional people didn’t begrudge him for taking the promotion. In fact, many were happy for him.

Don't think we're mates. Alright I'm proud of Mani and happy for him. Not happy for you or your club, if he had to be drafted then I wish it had been any of the 16 non SA clubs.

It's outrageous that you can just take a player from us in midseason. You've ruined our team and possibly our season.

Then you expect us to bend over, take it and say thank you and to be happy about it.

Fcuk you and your club.

Alas, that goes with being a feeder club in a second string competition. Don't blame us we are playing by the AFL rules that the SANFL and by default it's affiliated clubs agreed to. As for supporting the 16 non SA clubs over the locals I can see why you would want to do that and if it makes you happier most of us would prefer that Port was shot of the SANFL and playing in a properly constituted AFL Reserves competition. If that happened any player drafted mid season by either the Power or the Crows would not be playing against his former club.

Historically player movement has worked both ways, prior to the revised 2024 list agreement there were plenty of former Port listed players who lined up against us when they could not fit into the 2014 SANFL formula that restricted the players Port could retain on our list as SANFL top up players. Zane Kirkwood (twice), Aaron Young and Will Snelling, all former Port listed players won Magarey Medals playing against us.

I reiterate if both the Power and the Crows had a viable AFL Reserves competition to play in these problems would be sorted. Back in 2023 Port put a time line before the SANFL and the SANFL responded by altering the list arrangements so that both Port and the Crows would remain in the SANFL for 2025. What happens after 2026 is anyone's guess.

The bottom line is Mani was drafted under AFL and SANFL agreed rules and he gets a crack at AFL footy and if he is good enough he will stay in the AFL side and not line up against his old club in the SANFL competition. That will not compensate the loss of a key player mid season but it might ease your pain.

Last time I checked, you can’t play AFL at Central District.

Know your place in the eco-system.

Port Adelaide had the foresight and guts to rise above that level.

bye 👋

The SANFL is run by AFL sycophants that make decisions to favour the AFL and not the SANFL which they should be. We need to get rid of them and put in people who will work in favour of the SANFL.

And I really do wish you and the Crows would disappear to the vfl or an AFL Reserves competition. The SANFL should have called old mate Koch's bluff and forced you to go to the VFL and taken the Crows with you.

There should be an AFL reserves comp it wouldn't eliminate your issue though there would still be a mid season draft.

Fair enough, yes. At least we wouldn't be playing against AFL players. The competition would be a level playing field with semi professional players. There should be an AFL Reserves competition. Totally agree with you. Thank you

The AFL is correctly the priority. The SANFL is a feeder comp living off AFL money, existing to develop the next tiers of talent for AFL footy. How hard is that to comprehend. Anyone holding onto this ancient knowledge of the SANFL being anything more or different to that is delusional.

Really the SANFL should probably be disbanded and merged with the Adelaide Footy League in a top to bottom relegation system these days to be honest.

Good point re the parasitic nature of the SANFL. Their supporters complain about the system yet they are willing to hold their hands out for a cut from the AFL gate that the AFL clubs bring to the table. If not for AFL hand outs the SANFL would be reduced to a parklands league.

Boys what position does he play on Sunday?

Hard to see him playing in the middle, as we have a plethra of mids.

Wonder if the Snafl club supporters would get upset if they starting pilfering players from the Div 1 ammo’s?

We'd be happy if the SANFL had nothing to do with the AFL. No AFL teams in the SANFL, but more importantly no money going from the AFL to the SANFL and the SANFL not having a place on the SMA. With no AFL or SANFL crossing, those two places would go as one to Port and one to Crows. The SANFL (including it's clubs) doesn't want that though. For all the bleating from it and it's supporters like you, they realise their salary cap without AFL handouts would be two meat trays a game, with a clubs marque player getting one free diet coke post game.

Honestly it’s great that you care for your club and the SANFL. Shame that your season has been derailed, although I would hope that your team can cover a single midfielder.

Reality is that the AFL has the power and money, players’ ambitions lie in reaching this league. It’s the pinnacle. Doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the local leagues, but that’s the reality.

Literally every sport, everywhere has lower leagues that feed into higher leagues/teams.
Is Melbourne victory salty when they lose a player to for Aus or the EPL? Or the NBL to the NBA? Cricket teams are serially affected through a season as players more up and down grades or from teams. Often in the middle of the season too. Just the world man. You can be sour but it ain’t changing it.

Yup. If we were in the same league as Centrals it would be bullshit, but it’s a step up to actual professionalism from part timer.

That’s huge.

So proud of him. Imagine being able to fulfil a dream and finally play proper football at a real club.

.... Centrals .... What is the point of us existing? We may as well just develop average players and finish mid table SANFL. thank you for your half reasonable and polite reply, not like some of the others on here.
We ask that same question every day!
