I know what you’re saying but I’m not sure it’s mismanagement per se.He's got all the attributes to an AFL star. But I must say we've sort of handled his start poorly.
He was draft as a high half forward, not a typical crumbing small forward like say Rioli or a power forward like SPP. Some of the types of players I compare Berry too is like Darcy Jones and Harvey Thomas at GWS, McCreery at Pies, Dylan Moore from Hawks. The type that runs up the ground, apply pressure, cause a turnover and rebound but also can find space to lead into inside 50.
Hindsight is a wonderful thing. But maybe if we planned to use DBJ, Richards and Rioli in the high half forward roles, we either should've drafted someone else or at least, started Berry in SANFL. Personally I was under the impression Rioli was going to be playing closer to goal but doesn't seem to be the case (don't mind what's he's doing atm though!)
Yep definitely above SANFL for sure, hopefully he won’t be one of those too good for SANFL but not good enough for AFL types.Above SANFL footy, been happy with what he has done in the Ones. Not the finished product but just need to pump games into him and challenge him at the level above to fast track the development.
If he's above SANFL at 18 I don't think this is a genuine concern.Yep definitely above SANFL for sure, hopefully he won’t be one of those too good for SANFL but not good enough for AFL types.
Needs and extended run in the SANFL, no matter how well he might play just needs a long run of good form before even being considered for AFL selection again. This kid is legitimately just not showing any positive signs whatsoever and it's making the already terrible Houston trade look even worse.
This season isn’t exactly going great. No 1st rounder this year either. Might as well keep him in and give him every chance at AFL level we can for the year.Needs and extended run in the SANFL, no matter how well he might play just needs a long run of good form before even being considered for AFL selection again.
Problem is, he's so far off the pase at AFL level he'd be better off in the SANFLThis season isn’t exactly going great. No 1st rounder this year either. Might as well keep him in and give him every chance at AFL level we can for the year.
We might have got this one Chance Jones level wrong. Early days but there’s nothing AFL impressive from 7 attempts so far.
Sinn too.Traded up for him, uh-oh.
sinn at the time was worth trading up for, berry just looked like a good albeit vanilla small forward at u18 levelSinn too.
Exactly. The young man will make it and so will Whitlock. Our issues are not talent based as much as shit coaching. Carr needs to get some decent assistant coaches in and fitness staff. The club needs to wake up and increase the FD spend or forget seriously challenging for @ flag.Just been absolutely flogged and we are piling onto a 19 yr kid. Name once decent 4 qtr player today, a complete disaster of a day.
