Hasn’t shown an ounce of anything all year. Needs a good month in the Maggie’s to try and build some confidence as he has absolutely none and doesn’t look like he knows when to go or commit.
It was too early for him to return to AFL. Played well with the maggies; 23 touches and 2 goals and looked above SANFL level. Should have spent a few more weeks building his game and creating pressure for spots in the main team to perform and force his way in rather than bringing him back straight away because he went nowhere in the last two weeks.

Exactly. The young man will make it and so will Whitlock. Our issues are not talent based as much as shit coaching. Carr needs to get some decent assistant coaches in and fitness staff. The club needs to wake up and increase the FD spend or forget seriously challenging for @ flag.
The footy department needs a lot of change; new defence coach, development coach, magpies coach, forward coach, midfield coach, senior assistant coach, fitness boss, list management among many other things.

Playing in a completely dysfunctional forward line surrounded by spuds. He showed some good signs in the pre season games, let's not forget that. Yeah it's been a bad start but still way, way too early to judge properly.

Chayce Jones vibes. Very early days to be fair.

I'm gonna be patient my main concern is I was expecting a bit of x-factor which I'm yet to glimpse.
Further on this, what you’re hoping for from a first year, first round small forward is to bring energy and glimpses of excitement. Kako is doing it for Essendon. When he’s around the play he’s trying to make something happen. Our Joe hasn’t done one “wow” thing in any of his games so far. Even the stuff he did in his SANFL game was good meat and potatoes high half forward stuff. We might ultimately have a solid HF on our hands. Hope it’s a lot more than that though. We needed a point of difference small forward.

I just don't think he's comfortable in his skin out there yet I can tell he has a nice leg but nothing has really come together so far.

The best stuff I've seen from him was his runs down the wing in pre-season.

Crazy how he was BOG in the intra-club for us and can't even make an impact now.

He needed an extended run in the twos, absolutely ridiculous he was brought back in after one okay game in the twos.

I think he has something but needs to find some confidence.

To be fair not many first year players are ready for AFL footy, most of them take time, Sid Draper is having his own issues and he was a top 5 pick.

I’m pissed off more with the selectors than Joe, we dropped Moraes for Lorenz and Lorenz provided more so maybe we need to drop Berry for Hugh Jackson. Bit of shiny new toy about the Moraes and Berry selections over guys that are in the early 20’s and need to prove something this year or they might be delisted.

Horribly mismanaged this kid. I don't think he knows what his role is, which points to poor coaching, it's not for a lack of effort. He's running well and with good speed and couple times got to good spots to crumb but today was a miserable day for our small forwards. We gave them no chance with our ball movement.

If he was at Geelong, he'd weigh 5kg more, could run all day and his floor would be Paul Chapman.

He's a class above sanfl but has to play a few consecutive games there and build his confidence and fitness base.

If we're wanting him to play as that hard-running, miles covering HFF, there is a lot of training required. Some say it's the hardest position to play on the ground. It was naive to think he could come in and dominate in that role.

Wasn't he sold as an x-factor small forward? I only really remember him getting possessions on the wing aside from the gift goal from JHF.
He's produced the occasional side-step when in space, but nothing that has shown evasiveness in traffic or lightning hands yet. Goes to ground easily and fails to make up space when chasing. His tackles also don't stick which is a little understandable given his size.

DBJ,Rioli,SPP & Richards our small forwards, then there’s Berry.Too many for anyone to really shine. I’d drop DBJ and give the spot to Berry.
