Player Watch Welcome to Port Adelaide Pick #15 (2024) - Joe Berry

Actually does Joe Berry have Ben Jacobs vibes. Flaky left footer with over rated skills taken with the same pick. The peak of his career was to become a tagger at North. Merely suggesting that should see me banned for a week.

I was watching some of his under 18 highlights. Reminds me a bit of a young Robbie Grey when he was playing up forward, wonder how he would go leading up to the ball as a forward at this level.
At SANFL level he did that in the SANFL showdown was pretty much worst on ground.

Even freo wanted Berry before Reid.
Dont know what you have been sniffing, but that is total bull:poo:!!

They were over the moon to get Reid, and any talk of them preferring Berry is rubbish! He was highly viewed no doubt, and as Twomey say, "in the mix." But Reid was the player they were after.

Callum Twomey:
"The Power ranked Berry slightly ahead of Murphy Reid and Jack Whitlock. With Berry still available, the Power jumped up and did the deal, leaving Allan on the draft floor shocked that the Eagles might be about to pass him. In truth, the Eagles grabbed an asset later in the piece (which turned out the be pick 46) and the Power gave up a pick they weren't going to use to ensure nobody else could pounce. Had Berry and Reid been off the board, the Power would likely have traded back slightly, bunny hopping and picking up draft collateral until taking Jack Whitlock. Their trade of Houston – for 13 and 29 – ended up landing them Berry and Whitlock in the draft.

Fremantle, too, got the player it had in its sights in Reid, the classy midfield playmaker. Allan, Berry and Hotton were also in the Dockers' mix, but with Reid remaining, they used the pick on one of the best performed players of the draft campaign.

Freo did to us what Essendon also did to us in 2021 with the Sinn pick

Didn't Twomey have Berry going to Freo in his Phantom draft, and they were also trying to trade up to get the West Coast pick we took.

Parker and Cripps both said that there were a number of clubs trying to trade up for Berry. Maybe it was for Reid all along and they should've just called Tibbs for some inside knowledge.

Apologies, i keep forgetting you know everything, especially with the benefit of hindsight.

Sydney were definitely targeting him and wanting to trade up to cut our lunch

Nothing to with hindsight at all. Freo were alwasys after Reid.

Read Addy23's comments above. We fell for the classic 3-card-trick - As you are still doing right now. Just a stupid hill to die on, but then that typifies you!

Not dying on a hill. Couldn't give a stuff. I'm okay with Berry and need more than a half of season to make a judgement on the selection.

But i will listen to recruiters over a know it all tosser like you on big footy.

This kid looks nothing of a footballer. What an absolute waste of a pick, Murphy Reid or not, this kid aint it.

Shits his pants any set shot at goal, fumbles, slow, non reactive.

What did we see, honestly.

Berry plays in Mead’s positions. It’s not like Mead is doing much in that role nor is he a high half forward with his skills not being suited for it.
If he’s not up to AFL standard why play him?
Will do nothing for his confidence.
That’s classic deck chair shuffling,
people complain about Hinkley doing this and now want to play someone with zero form.

If you think Joe Berry has Ben Jacobs then I suggest you take your vibrator out from where the sun don't shine.

I'm sure Joe Berry is a better bloke than Ben Jacobs but as of right now there's zero evidence that he's going to be a better footballer.

Lol the only thing Jacobs had shown at this point in his career was that he was elite at shitting his pants and it didn’t get much better from there.

Berry took a while to shine in the under 18 comp but eventually starred in it. Hopefully after a bit of grounding playing against men in the AFL and SANFL he'll hit his staps soon. Unlike Jacobs, Berry has only looked pleased to be on our list. His character far exceeds Jacobs and he has much more pace and flair than suck-face Jacobs.
As things look now we should have taken Murphy Reid, who was always highly rated but for some reason slid a long way. I have not given up on Berry and see a lot of potential still.
