For me he screams bog average, not saying he won’t make it at AFL level in some capacity but only as a foot soldier.
Definitely nothing special,if he doesn’t make it at AFL level I can see him more likely returning to Victoria to play VFL.
Disagree. Has shown elite traits and will excel at AFL level. He's been on the list 6 months give him time.

Elite?
As in what?
You related to him?
The truth is probably somewhere in between.

Not sure he will be elite based on what we've seen, but he's definitely shown a number of promising traits that suggest he's going to be much better than a bog standard player.

If an elite player is 9+/10
and a bog standard player is 5/10

I seem him developing to a 7/10 with the capability to become an 8/10.

You always give kids two years.

If they haven't shown a zac in that time, then delisting is a reasonable option, but not before.

Long term injuries can affect that timeline.

Well hopefully you’re correct, an 8/10 is well above average for a AFL player these days.
I just don’t see it myself but it is early days.

Murphy Reid seems to be exactly what we needed too.

I guess we can hope for our sake he is one of those quick out the blocks but peak early players like a Rhys Palmer.

Joe Berry is tracking along okay, it’s a fairly normal first year but he is going to get harsh criticism due to Reid doing incredible things for a first year player.

Not dying on a hill. Couldn't give a stuff. I'm okay with Berry and need more than a half of season to make a judgement on the selection.

But i will listen to recruiters over a know it all tosser like you on big footy.
LOL ... Looking in the mirror when you posted that.

Announced that he signed a 4 year extension too.

MUh I want to stay in Melbourne being a free hit and dropping him in the draft, just **** sakes.

Reid would have saved the Houston trade

Does Murphy Reid actually lack leg speed? It was why I wasn’t as keen to draft him but based on what I’ve seen, he doesn’t seem slow or anything.

As good as Murphy Reid has been, I am of the belief that he would exactly be in the same situation as Joe Berry if he got drafted by Port because of Stinkley's gameplan and tactics.
Partially disagree, one of the main reasons I wasn't sold on Berry was because of his runs on his board. While his u18 year was awesome and consistent, that was the first year he actually broke on to the seen. At the start of the 2024 draft year, he wasn't seen as a first round prospect. In such a talented draft, everyone else had strong u17 years as well so they had 2 years' worth of performances under the belt.

This even goes for Moraes, who was a potential first round talent in 2023 when his u17 year was very strong. His u18 was just as strong imho but his position changed so he his numbers were slightly down yet he drifted to pick 38.

So it could be that Berry is bit of a slow burn because 2024 was the first year he made recruiters sit up and take notice. And then all of a sudden he's in an AFL environment which is completely different to what he thrived in in his u18 year.

Surely awesome and consistent form at the highest level available constitutes ‘runs on the board’

Seems a baseless critique to roast him on not being as good as other 16 year olds… maturity, physical development all occurs at different rates

He represented Vic Country at U16 level in 2022… I’d say that’s on the radar.

Leave scouting to experts imo

I think Reids problem is he was so good for so long, recruiters started looking for reasons not to take him.

Too small, too slow, not big enough for midfield. He got tagged by another top pick (Hannaford) late in the year and was shut down.

Overall he was in the top 5 performers from the draft pool, had more than enough skill and smarts for the next level, and so far he is just continuing on with it in the AFL.
