No need to tank
He will do a JHF and Brad Ebert and come here anyway

Assuming he does a JHF and requests a trade after one year, Port gives up 2027 and 2028 first rounders which in theory isn't going to cost as much IF the F/S and NGA prospects loom as potential 1st rounders especially in the 2027 draft. 2028 draft isn't going to amount to anything unless there is more F/S or NGA academy prospects since it will be compromised due to Tassie coming in.

Might work out in the end. Having said that, AFL just for once do Port a solid and allow Doug to join their NGA academy and gain first access to him.

Can pretty much take this to the bank, assuming that there is a team who drafts him ahead of Port.

Draft picks get told by their managers frequently to play an open book in all pre-draft meetings etc, but in Dougie's case I would not be surprised if he tells every club he has no intention to stay with them long term and that he would request a trade to Port as soon as the opportunity presented itself.

Big League is going beautifully.

Proved he deserved to be drafted on his own right and not as a lure to get Dougie. Didn't play for SA's U/18's in the national champs was why eyebrows were raised, but given Port's connection to Stuie, we would have been watching him for years as well as Dougie.

Isn't this effectively what Wingard told GWS in 2011? A top 3 draft prospect he was picked up at pick 6 by us after GWS passed him up with their first 5 picks. I was led to believe that he told GWS that he couldn't see himself playing at a club that was just starting out effectively letting them know that he wouldn't last there very long if he was drafted.

You really have to do your homework on potential draftees and encourage them to be honest before drafting high value kids who have roots in other states. Of course it also helps to know the history of the club you are representing when it comes to knowing how well they retain such kids.

Yes this is correct.

One strategy which has worked well for Port is that the majority of the Victorian players they've taken were from Vic country rather than Vic metro. It has significantly reduced the go home factor for many players.

Yep he has been the best of the AFL debutants this season, and of the 3 players who came to the club in trades, only Joe Richards has contributed more than him.

Its disappointing this long term injury has hit so early in the season. Hope he doesn't loose too much fitness levels.

Watching Tom play, he kind of reminds me of a young Michael Wilson.
