Todd Elton - AFL career
Elton was drafted by Richmond with the club's second pick and 26th selection overall in the 2011 AFL Draft.[5]

Elton made his debut in round 14 of the 2012 season, in a match against Adelaide at AAMI Stadium in Adelaide. He recorded just four disposals on debut.[6] He did not play again for the senior side in 2012; instead returning to play for the club's then-VFL affiliate Coburg.

In 2013 Elton failed to play for the club's senior side, instead playing reserves football for Coburg.

Again in 2014 he could not manage a senior match. He played reserves football for the newly created Richmond stand-alone VFL side.

2015 saw Elton return to the club's AFL side, appearing in one match for the year. Playing in defence, he recorded just five disposals in the team's victory against Collingwood in round 7.[7]

Elton next appeared for the club's AFL side in round 22 2016. He would kick his first career goal in the match against St Kilda.[8] For the first time in his career, Elton played two straight matches when he was returned to the side for the round 23 match against Sydney.[9]

By the beginning of 2017 Elton had transitioned permanently to the role of key position forward. He came into the club's AFL side in round 3, replacing the injured Ben Griffiths.[10]He recorded nine disposals, three marks and four tackles in the win against West Coast.[11] Following a run of three straight matches at senior level (his first such in his career), Elton was omitted from Richmond's round 6 side to take on Adelaide.[12] He returned to the side the following week but was again dropped following a six disposal match in round 8.[13] Elton returned in round 10's Dreamtime at the 'G match where he kicked his first goal of the season, before being dropped for a third time ahead of round 11.[14][15] Elton suffered a dislocated shoulder while playing with Richmond's reserves in the VFL in early June.[16] The injury did not require surgery to correct but would still hold him out from playing until mid-July.[17][18] He would fail to return to senior football that season, playing out the home and away season in the VFL.[8] Despite being available for selection, he missed out on playing in the reserves' finals wins or in the their losing grand final, instead being left out for team balance.[19][20]

Elton was delisted by Richmond at the conclusion of the 2017 season, having played 10 AFL matches over his six year tenure at the club.[21]

Played back for the first two and a half quarters, before moving on ball.

Had some nice moments, but pretty quiet with only the 15 touches.
His work off the ball can be pretty good at times too, set up a goal with a lovely block. Can blunder as well, as per the hold on the Carlton ruckman going in to ruck, free kick. Watched him closely when he was on Kennedy and visa versa, can mix it with AFL quality, just not sure about the pace. Pendles can look slow at times, but ain't. Think Pickett could be a little bit like that, has time in traffic, but finding the pace of it from Perth. Another step to go yet.

I'd be surprised if he didn't play this year. When he went on ball in the last quarter, was a class above. One touch player with good skills. Would be a huge improvement on Baker down back.
He's not a back, and Baker has been getting better in his new role every week. Baker was very good today, and if he was going to be dropped it wouldnt be for Pickett

Clearly played a different role this week, was playing HB and a Macca style wing role on the fat side. Did t do anything wrong just didn’t get enough of it, but importantly was clean and did everything right

Will come in vs Brisbane imo

Baker has been poor down back. Was ok today. In my opinion, Pickett would be an upgrade. Can also move into the midfield which I don't think Baker can. Carry on.
Baker had 22p today , was pretty good , from what I’ve seen on Pickett today , he’s a bit off that level in senior company

There’s much more to being called up than form game by game in the vfl. Specific Roles played, training, overall vision of coaches on who they think can play what role and subsequent instructions on game day that will translate to senior level, all play a part. It’s not just who was best. That’s archaic.

Bet none of you thought Ross would play on the back of a half a vfl game? Not only that, he got stronger as the game wore on - 6possies first half and finished on 21.
