I’m amazed that’s never happened
Also think we’ll be unfurling 2,flags. I’m not sure if that’s been done before
Agree. You'd think somewhere in the past it was to have happened.
Busy year for our flag bearers.2 afl & 1 vfl.

Seconds probably.

But I'd assume they'd be planning on him playing a Lambert style mid-forward role when he retires in 3 or so years.

Richmond have quality small and mid defenders but don't bat deep. Houli is ageing and has injury issues.

Dow and DES were getting a game occasionally.

Wouldn't surprise me if both new blokes were being looked at as defenders

Interview with Rhyan Mansell up on the club website.

Speaks well the youngster. Seems to have a nice attitude to things. I think he is a Collier-Dawkins, Ross, Stack, Ryan, English, Turner contemporary, so it is nice to add another one from that year after delisting two. So interesting to look at what we have in each year on the young end of the list:

Born 2002 Rioli Jnr

Presumably add some more born in 2002 players along with the 2003 crop in this year’s draft.

Born 2001 Ralphsmith Nyoun Dow Martyn Cumberland

Born 2000 Collier-Dawkins Stack Ross Ryan Mansell

Born 1999
Naish Colina Coleman-Jones Miller Balta

Born 1998 Baker Graham Garthwaite Bolton

Born 1997 Chol Rioli

Born 1996 Short Soldo Castagna

Born 1995 Nil

Born 1994 McIntosh Vlastuin Nankervis Aarts

Born 1993
Broad

Born 1992
Pickett Caddy Prestia Lynch

Born 1991
Astbury Martin Grimes Lambert

Everyone else is over 30 already.

I have highlighted all the players we picked up after their draft years so we can sort of see where they fit in.

We have probably 8 x best 22 players born in the 5 year period bookended by 1993 and 1997. That is a couple less than ideal, but I fully support the club deliberately avoiding anyone born in 1995. The Blues won the flag that year, nothing good can come of a year like that. 😁

We have three who are already making the grade from the 1998 crop, hopefully we can also get three from the 1999 year. The 2000 crop looks every chance to produce up to 3, and the 2001 crop we just don’t know yet but if we ended up with two from that lot, two in the 2002 year and likely about 3 from the 2003 year, we should be right back on track.

You can see from this that in 5 years time around 2026, that Short, Rioli, Soldo and Castagna will be making up the bulk of the elders in the team, so it is good the club got busy drafting at the same time it started winning flags.

In all seriousness, we could do with looking to add a couple of quality players born around 1996-97 in the next year or two.
