Toast Welcome to St.Kilda - MAX HEATH!

Was chatting to an old school/childhood friend over the weekend and was asking him about Max Heath as he goes to the school we both went to and my friend has sons there now.

Basically he said Max will play the year mainly at school as the school (Xavier) will be in the running for their first premiership for awhile.

He said what will be especially interesting will be to see how he goes against Luke Darcy’s son who plays for Scotch and is apparently dominating.

Scotch will be playing Xavier at Scotch on 31st of July so it might be a good game for a few of you to get down to if you want to see how our young bloke Heath goes against a quality opponent in Darcy in a big match.

say that again

Big lad.
Hopefully good to go ( at least start playing some games) in a couple of years when Ryder retires.

The choice is using Marshall on his own like in 2019 when he was just awesome. Max is still a long way off according to those ITK

True - but the double header looks good. We will need tohave another forward to help King out then.

If anything, Marshall taking most of the ruck time and Heath just being the chop out gives him a bit of experience in the ruck but also lets him play forward with King. Full or 50% ruck will be a stretch but playing him as a sort of young key forward stand in isn't too much of a stretch. Max, Ben, Thilthorpe, Mcdonald all show that they can play forward early and still have an impact. Will let him get used to the pace of AFL level without having to play full ruck.

Those 4 examples are all top 10 picks. Max was about pick 7 in the midseason draft. Not a first round pick. Not second round. Not 3rd round. Not 4th round. Not even a rookie.

That’s true but he’s got the height and weight to do it. For a lot of this season max king wasn’t kicking goals or taking marks. Yet managing to take a defender and just bring contests to ground was enough to be a crucial part of our setup. Heath could do that surely. Frees up max king to actually do forward things. Marshall and Ryder draw defenders but they don’t actually consistently kick goals. Heath could demand a decently sized defender and learn from there.

Tilthorpe is also nearly 4 months older than Max. McDonald nearly 7.

They’re not inconsiderable advantages at that age.

There's talk that Max would be a top 20 pick if in this draft.
Having said that I don't follow the draft.
If he's gonna be 6 ft 6 and 96kg he's big enuf to play 1's

I haven't seen him play at all, but his numbers have been building in the Nab league and his last game sounded like a ripper. If he can be a solid forward option, he could be an ideal partner for Marshall in the long term. A lot of water to go under the bridge though. Keen to see how he goes with Sandy next year.
