Ah well ... there you go. He'll just have to settle for a premiership medal instead.... or a Gary Ayres or a Norm.
Much like Libba in 2011, who arguably should have been top 5 in the voting in his year yet never received a nomination (and would probably sit comfortably in the top 5 of his draft based on his career). It's a dumb award.

One of many dumb awards. The only ones, in no specific order, that carry any weight with me are the Coaches and Players MVPs. Gary and Norm get a look in.

But of all things to be won, the premiership medal (1 of 23 in a team game) eclipses everything else.

Has the kid had a RS nom ?
He is not thinking about the Rising Star. He has a chance of becoming one of the premier midfielders in the game over the next 12 to 24 months — similar to what Ed Richards has done over the past year.

Excited for him, but one game at a time. Think of Sam Darcy.

I’d love our players to reach the highest level of achievement but it’s a dangerous, unpredictable game they’re playing.

Sorry to be a worry-wort 😉
The number of people at the ground who said at 3QT on Saturday "we're home. We can't lose this from here" ... and all the worry-warts around them (they were in the majority, me included) said things like "Don't jinx us. Just shut up. We're the Bulldogs. We can lose it from anywhere. Bad karma man." I think it was only at about the 25 minute mark of the final quarter that everybody started relaxing.

Superstition is huge in any sport. AFL no exception.

I don’t think I’m superstitious, it’s just that the future, even the very near future, is unpredictable and random. It cruelly resists our wishes and plans at every opportunity 😟.

But keeping our fingers crossed, carrying a four-leaf clover, not stepping on cracks, and wearing a lucky scarf should never be forgotten, just in case 😉

I don't think it's unreasonable in that situation to not go the early Crow.

We're obviously not the only team who have been known to fall into the category of being mentally weak. Perhaps we've improved in that area, but previously we've been known to surrender big leads. A lot of that is down to being mentally weak.

Ironically, I'd say it was our opponent (GWS) who appear to be the weakest team mentally in the competition. They didn't get overrun in last year's QF and SF because they had an inferior list. They lost because they weren't equipped to mentally deal with an opposition run on.

I'd put Carlton on par with GWS as the mentally weakest teams in the comp. This is evidenced by their body language and a significant drop off in pressure rating.

Bont took Bailey Smith under his wing a few years ago and then took JUH under his wing a couple years ago. Was also very close to Dunkley at one point. Nothing against the great man but maybe leave Bont Jnr to be his own person 😅

Glad he took Toby Greene's goal kicking under his wing last weekend.
