[Giant Strides]

We traded a couple of late picks to grab this guy, so presumably we thought someone else was on the brink of grabbing him but rated him ourselves. I'm not totally surprised at grabbing a mobile defender as I thought we have been short since losing (& not directly replacing) Nathan Wilson. Hopefully he's a surprise packet!


Connor Idun is a reliable defender with some impressive defensive traits who can also play forward when required. He has great closing speed, is good one-on-one and cleanly spoils the ball. Once he can build his endurance base further and develop greater consistency, he could be a very handy asset.

The mum and stepdad seem down to earth; happy for Connor that he got selected and not fazed about going to Sydney ... the stepdad is originally from Sydney & Connor has a grandmother, aunt & uncle in Sydney so hopefully that strongly mitigates the homesickness factor. At #61 he's no doubt a speculative pick, but a pretty reasonable one from Caruso and his team. Welcome Connor and hope you can make a good fist of your AFL dream.

He was well regarded, really needs to improve his tank which he will but has all the good footy traits to make a nice defender. He is a good speculative selection with good upside.
