Havnt seen his last quarter which was apparently his best but I was impressed enough with his first two quarters. I just wish he could be even slightly good in the hitouts because geez he's coming into his own around the ground. Was he ever a good tap Ruckman? Even at junior level?

His confidence is rising week by week and maybe he's stating to realise he belongs and can make it as an AFL player. I doubt he would have been the most confident bloke considering the shit he has copped and still cops.

If he continues at this rate of improvement he solves a big problem for us, I'm excited. Huge task this week though.

Agree that he needs to work on his tapouts. If he can add that to his game and continue to take grabs around the ground like he did last week then he will be a very very handy player if not a good one.

I have no idea where to find hitout to advantage stats and that stuff, but last week would have been close to his best ruck stats game wouldn't it?

Sandilands facing his biggest test this weekend since Cooney smashed him.

How is he going to go against "Leaping" Lin Jong?

And how will he ever catch Cordy if he runs away?

But seriously, I don't get this 'bring Minson in for Cordy' business. Minno would probably get smashed too and offer the usual 'meh' resting forward.

Cordy has had to operate with no Libba, no Wallis and Macrae not at his best.

Hope that we come up with some special moves to negate the Sandi/Fyfe influence

Ruck tap out stats are overrated in my book. Ayce has been getting smashed in that stat but we have still been playing well and winning games. He is a fairly smart footballer for a ruckman with his decision making and gets back defensively.Losing to the saints we still won the clearances centre and stoppage but its players like armitage and billings that got off the chain so this week bevo needs to negate the freo players that are running hot.

With Ayce's current rate of improvement (from an admittedly low base), he should become the dominant ruckman in the competition by year's end. Bookmark it..
Il get a flogstradamus on the Bay if that happens and we make the 8 :thumbsu:

I think his tapwork in itself his solid, I imagine his hitouts to advantage ratio would be fine. The problem is he doesn't get enough of them and isn't able to stop the other ruckman from dominating stoppages.

Agree.

Think this is a size thing; he simply just doesn't have the strength nor the size to run/jump into the opposition ruckman and push them off line while competing for the hitout. On the other hand, he's easily pushed out of it.

Unfortunately, he's proven over the years to be completely incapable of putting on size without sacrificing mobility.

Technique doesn't seem great so maybe room for improvement there

Of course, a lot of Ayce's strengths come from the 204cm and has a reasonably long wingspan ... if he was an inch and a half shorter, he wouldn't be the same player. But I've always said this about Ayce, you persist with a guy who has that height and mobility/athleticism ... they don't come around very often in AFL terms (the exact reason they're doing the combines in America) and it's exactly the reason he was a first round prospect at draft time even with a shoulder reconstruction in his final U/18 year.

Can someone post Ayce's don't argue from today? With 8 disposals and 4 HO's vs Sandilands 50 HOs and 10 disposals, it is clear Ayce crushed Freo's heart in this one don't argue moment. I can't believe they won, I doubt they can believe it.

Despite being a big man, with Ayce its never been about quantity, its all about quality.

That don't argue and handball assist for the goal was just about my highlight for the game frankly. Where's the gif, gents?

In the spirit of the All Stringers Goals and all Tom Boyds Goals threads, someone needs to start an All Ayce's Hitouts thread.
Perhaps we could entitle it Ayce's Greatest Hits??

That way we get to include Ayce's don't argue - hopefully from multiple camera angles.

Where is the love for Ayce, his 6 goal contested marking 44 hit out effort warrants love, yes it was in the twos but hey. Minson must be feeling the heat....!!

Bump, sort of ...

Well, in the context of Wil's big first week, his form has been very average since. Not to say that Cordy would be a better *ruckman*, but perhaps a good fit nonetheless. Ten goals in four matches (bags of four and six).

If Wil's form continues as is, I'd say he's in trouble. And then what?
