Surely one of Treacy, Jones and Reid should be playing in the round 1 to play alongside Ryan, Cripps and Petch. Treacy might be dropped back to the WAFL Eagles, while Jones should be added to the AFL squad. Huge opportunity for him to stake a claim for a round 1 berth with a big game since Treacy was pretty quiet against Essendon. Can't see much of a chance for Reid for round 1. Disappointing that we didn't/couldn't add Humphries. Just happy that we didn't add Grey.

What are the rules regarding Humpries is he eligible for the mid season draft?

He's about 15 months younger than Tim Kelly.

Not saying he can or will replicate the rise/performance of TK in the first couple of years in a professional environment, but even if he takes a year to become part of the team then he still has ~6 years of a career left potentially (saying that with the complete understanding he may not ever make it - that is kind of the point of the rookie list).

I'm glad we disregarded age in our search for small forwards (Read, Treacy and Jones are all 'mature age' prospects). Often players need at least a year to get their bodies physically ready before they can even start thinking about playing AFL, at least with older players they have finished growing and their bodies should be slightly better equipped to handle larger training loads.

Hope Jones all the best, he looks a talent and it's a great story for him - however it does also feel a bit of being a companion pony deal for Kelly.

In Reid the club have belatedly made the admission that a replacement for Lecras is perhaps necessary.


Welcome to the club, both have a good opportunity to feature in Round 1 if they take their chances.
