Richmond has selected rebounding defender from the Inner West Magpies, Eilish Sheerin, with pick No. 58 in Wednesday night's NAB AFLW Draft.
Richmond's second selection in the draft, the 29-year-old is a true story of perseverance.
A high-level performer in the AFL Sydney competition for a number of years now and a former train-on player at the GWS Giants, Sheerin just missed her chance to get on the AFLW list in 2020 due to an ACL injury.
After working vigorously to get back from her injury, Sheerin impressed in the 2022 season with Inner West in the AFL Sydney competition as an inside midfielder to become one of the premier players in the competition.
Richmond AFLW Recruiting Manager Trent Moseby said the Tigers were delighted to provide the mature-age recruit with an AFLW opportunity.
"Eilish first caught our attention playing in the Summer Series for GWS Giants against the Sydney Swans Academy, which featured AFLW listed talent. She was one of the best on the ground in multiple games, playing a variety of roles," Moseby said.
"Her strengths are her elite athleticism and her versatility to play on multiple sized opponents and multiple roles across the ground. She is an elite competitor who penetrates the game with her long kicking and run and carry style.
"We see Eilish playing as a rebounding defender in our system and we are excited to see what she can do wearing the Yellow and Black."

Was brilliant today , hope she can maintain that kinda form

only one game but WOW wish we had 2 of her, another for the midfield/wing
her kicking is a huge weapon, goal she kicked on the run just after half time siren sounded, went all of 50 metres head high, very rare to see that distance in the AFLW

interesting that she played mostly midfield in NSW women's before we drafted her, wouldn't mind her getting an occasional run thru there

Big and strong , brave and thumping kick ,,,hope to see more of the same

I don't like woman's footy much but watch our games and this woman if was a bloke reminds me of Francis Bourke type. Fears nothing goes in hard and plays like a man footballer. Good on her and whoever picked her up should be picking senior players for our man's team.
