Richmond has secured its first trade of the AFLW Sign and Trade Period with exciting youngster, Steph Williams, joining the Club from Geelong.

In exchange for Williams, yet-to-debut midfielder Ingrid Houtsma will depart Richmond and return to her hometown.

Williams, who was drafted by the Cats with selection No.27 overall in the 2020 AFLW Draft via Geelong Falcons and Northern Territory has played four matches at AFLW level.

Known for her explosive speed and creativity, Williams can offer coach Ryan Ferguson a dynamic option in all areas of the ground.

The proud Larrakia woman also becomes the first Indigenous player on Richmond’s AFLW list, adding to the eight AFL Men’s players currently at the Club.

Richmond AFLW Recruiting Manager Trent Mosbey said that Williams’ elite athletic traits made her a key target for the Club.

“Steph has genuine pace, excellent goal nous and the ability to break a game open which really excites us,” he said.

“She has shown glimpses of being able to impact at AFLW level and we hope that she will thrive in our Richmond environment and become a strong performing player for us.

“We are thrilled to be able to welcome Steph to the Club because she has so much to offer our program.”

Mosbey added that the Club wishes Houtsma well for the future.

“Ingrid received a great opportunity to head back to Geelong to be closer to friends and family, which we understand,” he added.

“We are pleased to have been able to come up with this trade that mutually benefits both teams.”
