Taken pick #13 at the 2016 National Draft

A great kid who has been likened to Luke Shuey because of his explosive pace and attacking brand of football.
Should be seeing some time up forward early on, and get hopefully get some midfield minutes.

Venables is a dynamic playmaker capable of turning a game in an instant, as he displayed when he kicked the winning goal to lead Vic Metro to a come-from-behind two-point win over Vic Country in the Under-18 NAB AFL National Championships in June.

The midfielder/forward can burst away from opponents with searing speed or, if he decides to do so, crash through them by utilising his size and power.

An up and down season, due to injury and inconsistent form, makes Venables one of the more interesting players to track on draft night.

Venables is a driven character prepared to give his all for his team. He has a knack for winning the ball when he has no right to do so and he is clever around goal. If he finds consistency within his game, he could be anything.

Watch for #25 - attacks the ball hard in Fwd 50, creates a chance, then lays pressure on to get the goal!

So people know what he looks like:

18. Daniel Venables
Midfielder
Height: 185cm
Weight: 82kg

Venables has a bit of brute about him. He has had injuries to both feet in the last year, which are a concern and it's hard to get a complete line on him because of them, but he did well to play as well as he did for Vic Metro this year. He's a strong, powerful, forceful player who switched between the midfield and forward lines and had an impact wherever he went. Slips and shakes tackles, makes others get out of the way, takes marks overhead and can win the ball on the ground too.

Only concern is the feet troubles - hope we've looked into those properly

Has pace which is nice

As much as I wanted SPP this looks a decent pick - comparisons to Dangerfield on the AFL site and he's gone at a similar pick

Fox Sports:

PICK 12 — DANIEL VENABLES (WESTERN/VIC METRO)

It was a frustrating year for Venables, who endured a few injury issues and struggled to get on the park. When fit, he’s an explosive and an attack-minded midfielder who can push forward and impact on the scoreboard. He’s a good contested player who likes to drift across half forward. Importantly, he can mark above his head and has a good eye for goal. He averaged two goals per game across the TAC Cup and the national championships to go with an average of 12.6 disposals per match.

12.6 disposals average????

WTF!!!!

I hope to god he doesn't develop like liam duggan. I want him to be switched on from the outset. Fast tracked dom sheed would be nice.

But really wanted spp. He better be able to break tackles at afl level.
