Another thin AFL draft for the Apple Isle. Where is all the Tasmanian talent?
This is the second year in the past four Tasmania failed to have a player picked through the national AFL draft. While it's easy to blame the league headquarters, the game just doesn't appeal to young Tasmanian men like it once did, writes Chris Rowbottom.
Absolutely stoked with this pick.
Could quite easily be the best out and out midfielder that we have drafted since Sheed in 2012.
A bit of Sam Mitchell in that sidestep. Reads play well, accumulates ball and has pace.
One of the steals of the entire draft as far as I am concerned. Very excited to see him in blue and gold.

Article highlights some of the many reasons why a full time team for Tassie is still a way off. Even Gold Coast due to risk/reward is a better prospect
MCL so on the lower end of a knee injury recovery wise.
His knee being worse than people think is the only reason I can of why he slid (to our 2nd rookie pick too!).
What are we missing? :O

If he turns out really well, better hope there won't be a Tassie side in the AFL anytime soon, cos he'll be one of the 1st to sign up.
He’s a proud Tasmanian too, wanting a Tassie team in the AFL.
"I'd love to have a Tassie side. I think everyone down there knows we should, how passionate we'd be as a state," O'Neill said.
"I feel like we could make a real good culture down there."
Maybe it's something his prospective suitors should keep in mind.
"If Tassie were in the [league] now, I'd choose Tassie."

O'Neill deals with the weight of Tasmania
As the only Tasmanian invited to last month's draft combine, Mitch O’Neill carries a greater burden than most AFL hopefuls.
Even if it's cataclysmic and he never plays a game for us, it's no worse off than we've been with the majority of our last, pre-renewal rookie picks for years.

Haha, nicknamed 'Snitty' because he ate a schnitzel burger before an U/13s GF. Like this kid already.
It's highlights, so my comment needs to be taken with a grain of salt, but he looks to be really well drilled around stoppages. Pushes his opponent to a spot where they can't impact (often under the ball, sometimes to the side) and allows himself time and space to exit the stoppage.
Of course it is harder to do at a higher level (everything is), but he's got a good base to work with.

18 clubs each passed on him multiple times but, from the outside, I’m very unsure as to why? Super impressive resume, seems like a great value rookie pick.

Very confident he will make the grade highest credited underage midfielder we have picked since sheed
Watched this kid play live many a times. Should have easily gone top 40. Knee injury or not he's better than some similar players drafted and will probably be around in 4 years compared to some blokes drafted.

Happy with this pick, addresses a need. Seems bizarre that he slid so far, given his credentials. Low risk, high reward kind of pick.
