I think Brander is as good a mark as Allen if not better, but set shots set Allen apart. Brander is a good field kick, mobile for a tall and has a good tank.

Allen maybe more professional and better leading patterns? The club seems to value that (see Ainsworth being internally rated)

Remember as well, he was a Larke medal winner, and going back to 2000 there have been very few duds amongst those. Very few slipped past the first round with most going top 5. Disregarding those that are still playing, very few didn't play 100+ games.

I'd be extremely interested in these times if you have them.

In n Allen for Rising star at 51-1. Has started really well.
If Sam Walsh doesn't win it, I'll eat my hat. The kid's already Carlton's second best player. For anyone else to be a chance, he'd need to go down with an injury.

Brander will be our next third tall/rebounding tall defender imo. Gov and Barrass are pretty much set and will be for years to come.

Looks to me like Oscar will be CHF, Darling will be around quite a while as the deepest natural forward and Jakey boy will be the running third tall option up front.

We then have rioli, ryan and petch filling the other forward roles. Other defending roles see cole locked into one, duggan locked into another small and hopefully not being too slow or tall with rotham and brander back with gov and barrass. We are definitely short a specialist high quality kicking small/mid defender coming through.

Williams may well be a second ruck/forward option and his best looks spectacular but his goal kicking is bad, like levi casboult bad at this stage.
Don’t be surprised to see Cole running through the midfield in the next couple of seasons

Brander turning into a mobile tall defender is a waste. Might as well have drafted Kelly in that case.

If you have a very high EQ you will understand........

Physically it’s completely the opposite. Cole and Brander are the superior athletes by a good measure.

Branded is quicker, cleaner off the deck, a better field kick. He’s slightly taller and has the bigger body and broader shoulders.

Allen is the better contested mark, better closer to the goals and on the stretch already our best mark. He’s also a better swing man IMO.

At the moment Allen is the future FF and Brander the future CHF.

I know combine results don't mean everything, but Allen tested better than Brander in vertical leap, agility, 20m sprint and yo-yo.

Who the hell was Andrew Hooper?
Little fella who debuted in a final for the Dogs. First finals debutant in decades IIRC.

No relation to Rhan Hooper, who was a small forward for Brisbane who did nothing until he played us. In that era where we would regularly get demolished by no name smalls. The Davenport Era as some remember it.

Ah yes, Davenport would murder us every time, and that ilk of player. I still think it's something we need to address in the coming draft - a kid who can play on quick smalls and dismantle them - a Neville Jetta type, only better.
