Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

I think it makes perfect sense. Although it sucks that we had to pay over the odds, if the question were put to you: 'How much would you pay to select David Swallow at pick 21 in 2010?', you'd get out your cheque book.

We offered 2 first round draft picks to Richmond for the chance to get Martin. In a compromised draft a potential 100-200 game first rounder is worth it's weight in gold. Obviously millions in the swans' eyes.

Where the risk comes in is if this squeezes someone like Hannebery out of the salary cap in 3 years. Hopefully not.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

I have all the confidence in the world in our management that this is something that they would have done all the homework needed to ensure that they havent comprimised our list management for years to come, one thing the Swans are is a professional outfit both on and off the field

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Very possible during school holidays, apart from then you can't reasonably expect him to.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

A quote here from Mummy about Mitchell in a recent article featuring Mummy and Moore on the swans website here:http://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/7106/newsid/108984/default.aspx

JM: Who’s impressed you the most this year?

SM: Well, we’ll start with the young blokes. I think Tommy Mitchell when he was up here training with us, his work ethic is absolutely unbelievable for a bloke his age. Because he was sort of injured a little bit, he was training with me down in the dungeon and he really pushes himself down there, so from what I’ve seen of him out on the track he is going to be an absolutely amazing little footballer.

Looking good so far, can't wait to see him in the carnival.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Has he started playing this year? Would love an update.

Hasn't really played for almost a year but is working hard to get back into full fitness

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

I noticed on AFL Teams that there is a Mitchell playing for Claremont this week in the foxtel cup, it wouldn't be Tom would it?

I noticed that as well but i thought i heard them say it was Barry Mitchell but that surely can't be possible given that Barry is currently 45 years old.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

I just looked it up and Claremont have a player called Kane Mitchell so odds are the Mitchell in that team wasn't Tom.

Last i heard Tom was still injured and has been injured for quite some time. I hope he recovers soon and starts playing again. I also hope it isn't the type of injury that is going to keep causing problems for him in the future.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Tom is not playing at that level yet, if he was fully fit he might be able to push for senior selection later in the year but Claremont is a very strong side. It is pretty rare for bottom aged draftees to be playing in the WAFL seniors, David Swallow/Stephen Coniglio are rare exceptions, not the rule

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

He is pretty much still recovering from injury and has close to zero match fitness. The WA squad is pretty strong but the coach has said he intends to give Tom gametime if he is available in a few weeks

I really hope he is available for the game they broadcast on Foxsports in July. I really want to watch that game and see how he goes.

Saw a very small amount of footage of him in the NAB under 18 preview, reminded me a bit of Trent Cotchin.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Anyone else gonna head down to the Under 18s at Blacktown Olympic this Saturday?

Game 1 at 10:45 is QLD vs SA ( I think)
Game 2: 2:45 is NSW vs Vic Metro (good game)

EDIT: If he wasn't a FS pick, where would he be selected?

Game 2 will be a 100pt defeat

He is not in Trent Cotchin's league. Before injury I rated him about the same as Reece Conca, but he is not the same type of player.
