Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Finished with 9 kicks, 19 handballs, 12 contested possessions at a DE% of 64. Had 1 mark, 3 tackles, 4 clearances, 3 inside 50s, 2 rebound 50s and 1.1.

Very solid game for only his 2nd back from injury.

Not sure if they played time-on though. Can someone confirm if they did?

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

I havent watched the whole game yet but I flicked over at half time in the SOO and noticed him have a shot on the run and he chose to kick a banana kick? Hasent he got a opposite foot?

Also his goal from 50 when he took the advantage the commentator said that his Dad couldnt kick that far, forgive me if Im wrong but I thought Barry could roost it for a little bloke especially a torp?

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Nope, no time on.

So 28 possessions from an 80 mins game. Not bad.

Sheehan said in the earlier game to add on another third to that for a full AFL game, so he's had the equivalent of about 37 touches :)

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Just watched the game, the guy is a contested possession machine!

Now you can see why he's been injury prone, throws himself at everything.

BOG, kicked a nice goal from 55 out.

Sure youre not the commentator? He went a bit overboard about it too. It was from 50 and on the run with no pressure and it barely made 50 it bounced on the line if there was anyone in the square they would have stopped it.
Look Im not saying it wasnt a great goal but keep it real or the kid will have unrealistic expectations on him..

Ahh forget about it he probably already has by all on here.

Barry Mitchell was great with the hands, but not so great by foot. I don't recall him ever really being able to kick any distance.

People are excited because Mitchell wa outside 50 and he kicked a goal on the run. That is something that most Swans players are incapable of doing.

I go along with that. I remember his stab passes and short kicks were good, but didnt gain a lot of distance in his kicking.

Stop harshing my buzz!:D

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

Stab passes, he ain't that old !

Maybe I'm thinking back to early in his career. But I do remember him chipping the footy around a lot with short passes. Hmmm, the memory aint what is used to be.

Interesting side to the stab pass/drop kick discussion here http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=207323 . With the game often played on drier (less muddy) grounds now, would love to see those kicks come back in under certain circumstances, but again I'm probably just showing my age.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

It's hard not to be excited though, in his second game back after a year off from injury he was named best on ground for the WA team that featured Coniglio and O'Meara among others.

Im almost certain that Ive seen him kick goals a few times from outside 50(if it was 50 back then) and he was fond of a torp..

Just on all this hype, I still havent seen the whole game yet but after reading here I expected a bit about him in the paper this morning (half expected his mug on the back page) but there was 2 pages from this carnival and they had a top 10 to look out for and write ups about kids that performed etc, Mitchell didnt get a mention?

He only played 2 of the 5 games at the carnival so it isn't surprising he didn't rate a mention in the top 10 players of the entire carnval.

It was headed top 10 players 'to watch' from the carnival it wasnt exactly a votes thing from the entire carnival, I was just surprised nothing on him after reading the thoughts here, its probably a good thing for us though.

Re: Mitchell gets a headstart

As long as he can raise his behind rate he'll fit right in.

It's funny you should say that, I caught the last 10 mins of the game and saw seven goals kicked, not one of which didn't dissect the goals from the moment it left the boot. I guess the kids don't quite have the mental demons of the seniors!
