What I like best about Scully is in the footage of the 2008 U18 carnival - how great the combination was at various times between him, Watts, Blease & Strauss. These four already seem to have a special understanding, and it's going to be spine-tingling to see all of them in the same team again.

Did Scully play many games? I watched a highlights package of the (final I think) game between Vic Metro and WA and I couldn't see Scully on the team list. Strauss, Blease and Watts had plenty of highlights though.

Did he state on the footy show tonight that he would love to be drafted by Richmond?

I know they all have a club they support but it wouldn't it be nice if it was the dees.

He said it would be nice to be drafted by Richmond but he's just hopeful of getting a change at any AFL club. Who they go for as a kid never really matters that much.

He shows 4 clear attributes we need and don't have

1.Clean hands. Very, very few players are one grab players. Scully's ability below his knees under pressure is brilliant and sets him apart from most other kids IMO. Just does not fumble and his vision and hands are sensational.

2. Gut running. We just don't have players who run like this. To have a gun midfield you need players who work like Judd, Hayes etc. He seems to have that special running ability of a cousins, Harvey, Crawford. This Blokes work rate is outstanding. They have to get him to hold back training wise. His workrate alone will give him a massive chance of being elite.

3. Pace. Love the fact that he is a genuine inside/outside midfielder. When he gets the ball in space has pace to burn.

4. Skills. The kid can use the prune. Thank ****.

This kid has not just had a great carnival this year. He was All-Australian last year and dominated in under 16's. This is not a Travis Johnstone pick. This Kid has the work ethic, desire and ability to be as good a bet at pick 1 as you can get

Actually when you think about I suppose in a way, Scully is what Travis Johnstone should be.

An extremely talented kid (like TJ was) with the desire and work ethic to succeed (what TJ was missing).

Talent/Ability/Skill + Superb Work Ethic + Massive Desire = Tom Scully

Talent/Ability/Skill + Poor Work Ethic + No Desire = Travis Johnstone

Great post. Two things you could also have included:

5. Directness. No 20m passes sideways, or 2m handballs to someone under pressure. Gets it OUT and gets it moving quickly and directly, with long kicks to position or to space or to leads.

6. Team player. Brings others into the game, does the 1%-ers, no showboating.

I think he'll fit in well with our other potential gun midfielders too - imagine a midfield that includes Scully, Grimes, Blease & maybe Morton, with 2 at a time of Brock (fully fit FCS!), Jones & Moloney getting it out to them, plus Davey & Sylvia ... :thumbsu:

We saw that with C.Judd.. and a quick thing if we picked Trengove he is S.Australian, could we have possibly have another scott Thompson??

hate to rain on the party but there's a distinct possibility we could win 5 games and end up in front of Richmond, which would give us pick 2 and no priority. Something to keep in mind before you start 'ambitious' threads like this one...

Do you honestly believe you will win 4 more games from here on in when you have won only 1 out of 13?

I certainly expect we could win at least 3, since all of the 3 I'm talking about are against opposition we beat at the G last time out (WCE, Freo & Richmond).

yes i do as a matter of fact... :p

We play your mob again so that one's better than a 50-50 chance...;)

We also have MCG games against,

West Coast
Fremantle
Port Adelaide.

That's 4 games we have a very good chance of winning as i see it, which would leave us with 5 overall...We've had a very good record against those teams at the MCG in recent times (even when we've been poor)...

Don't forget we also have a very good record against Port at the MCG too. Choco mentioned it last time we played them...

Good point Colin... and they've not exactly been bringing the house down lately with their efforts, that's for sure. No reason why we couldn't beat them.

Any particular reason why, or should we try reading between the lines on that post in order to figure this out MM? :p

I seriously wouldn't ever trade away wins like this, I really wouldn't :D
