Matera is exactly my thoughts too, particularly the way he loves a ping on the run from outside 50. Never thought we'd be making Dewar-Matera comparisons in 2025 but here we are. He's my new favourite player to watch with the ball in his hands

Ive been saying this for a while especially that bomb from 50 out and his run and carry hopefully he keeps this up. Ive always been a tyrell believer.

Heard on the broadcast of the game he turns 21 on Thursday. Can he get a nomination for a RS as he was under 21 for the game? Probs rules him out for the gong though

To be eligible for the AFL Rising Star Award, each year's nominated players must be under the age of 21 at 1 January and have played no more than 10 AFL games to the start of that season.
They must not have been suspended by the AFL or State League tribunals during the season (as with the Brownlow Medal, players found guilty of certain offences and fined or reprimanded by the Tribunal remain eligible to win the award).
As long as under 21 and less than 10 games is t he rule.
Small sample size but his averages are going well.

I wasn't even joking about him being too obscure. I don't think his name would even be on their list. It won't be until some fans or media personalities fire up and mention him that it will make them take notice. Then they will probably feel bad and give him a pity nomination for an average game.
As someone else pointed out, Vafl likely don't know he exists, or they think a rookie B player is not worthy.
He will make them eat their words.

There are always a couple of kids that have equally good games per week and someone has to miss out.
If Dewar keeps playing at the level he is, he will get his at some point this season. No one really knows his name right now.

I reckon it’s because dewar did his damage in the first quarter and then tired. The afl website made a point of how many of O’sullivans touches came in the final quarter, which suggests to me it was something they considered in their adjudication
They do love their made up criteria that never existed before but works for them in a very specific case then never again
Had 6 kicks for 200m gained in the third when we had 7 scoring shots but yes unsighted in the last when the Lions had 57% of time in possession compared to our 27%.
I can see how AFL would trawl through for something to justify awarding it elsewhere, but if Tyrell keeps up this form and the Twitter campaign kicks off they won't have much choice.
