You are underreacting because we have twice been beaten by Carlton. If we were ever going to be up for a game this should have been the one.
Why? This game was worth 4 points, same as any other. People have to realize we are not the juggernaut that we were last year. Even that didn't turn out to good. Every team in the top 8 has had poor games. It's a very even comp this year.

Personally I'd be more concerned had Swanny said "it's panic stations. We are screwed". What would people want him to say? If he rolls out the old clichés people would bag him for not caring.

Fact is it's one game and we get a chance to bounce back next week. The hysteria is really quite bemusing.

Again, I apologise. I thought this was a forum in which people could have an opinion. My mistake.

I could not care less what Essendon are doing. Friday night was worse than round 3, they were on their knees and we should have smashed them.

I mean this is a team that we beat by 1 point and are a top 4 team like us but are having a bad loss against a bad side

Listen to the lyrics of this song, you could learn from them:

At least Swanny gave us until Monday to move on. You obviously cope with disappointment far better than I. Good night Daisy.

this was the Blues GF.
They had nom stop press, non stop heat, every expert and idiot had them written off.
Pre game talk of ' if it's a 50 point loss Ratten is safe but if it's 80+ he is gone...'

It's Carlton v Collingwood. It don't get bigger. They were on and had everything to play for.
We were swanning about like million dollar stars with it in the bag.

And Cloke ...kick the momentum shifting gimmees FFS.

I saw last night as the second kick in the ass we may need to further in the year.
carlton gave us one in round 3 and it inspired the boys to work again.
since then, we'd won all our games but we always seemed to take our foot off the pedal a bit and do just enough. last nights loss should teach the boys about the risk's that complacency can bring.

Learnt nothing the first time we played them, learnt nothing from watching others teams belting them so what will be different next time?

Losing is part of footy it happens but Carlton did not play well. They were not hot, we were just soft and not up for it. That loss will probably cost top 2 and maybe top 4. Our run home is terrible we could not afford to drop a game to such a shit side.

Essendon are shit, who cares what happens to them. Its about finishing top two for home finals or top 4 to try and win in week one and get a home prelim. Last night dented that. Who seriously thinks Essendon are a flag threat?

West Coast and Hawthorn are the ones to watch.

We were flat after being up for so long, plus a cold affecting many at the club thru the week didn't help. With our draw and injuries early on, what would any of us have said if we were offered 11-3 and 1 game clear in the top 4 after 15 rounds? We would have taken it and run. Well we're there and we're well placed for another crack at a flag . Yes it's no good losing to Carlton but let's face it, it's just another game. We're still in the top 4 and they're still scrapping for 7th spot and the honour of being sent packing in week 1 of finals . Let them have their July grand final, we'll have ours when it actually counts

I agree about we should have been up for that game but it doesnt work like that with players these days, hardly any player we have supported the Pies as a kid therefore they wont know the importance the game has on us fans. Secondly most of the players are friends these days, unlike the olden days where if you were seen out with a Carlton player it would be huge news. I hate Carlton with a passion, cant stand them! But the players think differently to us and to them its just another game.

Regarding our performance, the reason why I am not too upset is becuase it looked like we werent trying, if we played our best and lost that would be worrying but we all know how we can play and that we are the best along with the Hawks. If we lost the next two games then I would be pannicking.

Yep, this.

We can rage all day and night about how much we hate to lose to Carlton [believe me, I do] and that the players don't understand the rivalry etc, but putting that stuff aside for a moment, we just blew 4 points that we will probably regret if we have to go to Subiaco in the first week of the finals, for instance.

I was very disturbed by Swannys comment. I wanted much more hand wringing and crying. I needed to hear 'OMFG we're ****ed, we are seriously ****ed now. I cant go on, my life is over. The football club is atrocious and we all want out, it's just not working'.
Followed closely by an interview with the club psychologist to help ease the pain caused by this heinous deed.

Not on Swanny!

We all should, because their loss helps our top 4 chances, which you then went on to say is important.

Geese we are making some excuses

Tactically we were beaten, in contests we were beaten, in attitude we were beaten. No need for excuses Carlton beat us from top to bottom

We will be fine. Loss we had to have. Let those down hill skiers gloat about their win. I'll happily lose to Carlton twice a year if we're making granny's! (ideally; winning them)
