Well; as a lonely Hawk supporter living in Sydney can I just blow a huge raspberry to the Sydney press.

UP YOURS!!:D

All week they had been talking about the Hawks v Sydney game as a romp in the park for the Swans. About how the Hawks were the team the Swannies were desperate to play; about how they were going to carve us up in the midfield etc etc.
Honestly some of these Sydney writers should stick to calling the bum sniffers; they are a joke. The last straw for me was when Paul Kelly was interviewed for the Sat. paper, his final statement was "We'll certainly win tomorrow". Well you didn't so piss off!

Whilst I have the floor, so to speak, can I also add;

1: Danny Chick you are a legend, the heart and soul of this club. When his contract expires offer him the captaincy, presidency, chairman of selectors; whatever, to keep him at the hawks. Whatever it takes; we gotta keep him.

2: Steven Greene - this kid is the future of the hawks. Like his old man he's got a great football brain (as well as that funny flat footed running style). This kid is gonna be a star. Doesn't kick well (at all) on the opposite side of his body; but hey, neither did Maradona right!

3: Trent Croad - Did it tough; but eventually got the better of Goodes. Croady, fire up boy, you could be our X factor in this campaign.

4: Dutchy Holland - well played, courageous AND effective.

No rash promises for next week, although if the hawkers apply the same passion they will be a good chance.

Next week will be another story.

And things would have been a lot different if Holland hadn't busted his shoulders; and things would have been a lot different if Crawford wasn't rubbed out....

Mike Sheahan...where are you now?

HAHA...Must admit I did take great delight in watching the media darlings get a caning this afternoon. No offense to the Sydney supporters - most of which are very good on Bigfooty. But people like Mike Sheahan should be feeling pretty silly last night. Mike spent all season stroking the Swans ego and saying they were a top 2 side blah blah blah.

All I saw today was a side that relies far too much on its captain up forward, struggles in the back line, and more importantly, has by far the worse skill level of any team in the 8. Rodney Eade's clever coaching, along with the efforts of a few (Kelly, Maxfield, Ball) has been hiding the reality the Swans have a pretty weak list with little depth.

Like when Dunstall done his knee up in Sydney in the '96 finals?

Anyway, Joel Smith was ****ting all over Kelly.

What's a matter loser? No team to support in the finals?

Leave the BumSniffers alone please

Dipper well at least you should be grateful that afl gets a run in the Sydney papers....the opposite does not happen here in Melbourne if you follow rugby league....welll maybe the Herald Sun does a wee bit on league.

Actually I think its good the Swans are looked after in Sydney...wish it were true for the Storm here in Melb.

I thought the Hawks looked real good today..getting some form back.

Who do the Hawks play next week...have not had time to check the tv for next week's fixture.

Thanks:p

Not only Sydney, but Adelaide as well. Now Mike can put all his efforts into one bandwagon...a bandwagon that has been close to his heart for the past 5 seasons...and that's Brisbane.

Port Adelaide at Football Park on Saturday night with the winner earning the right to play Essendon in a Preliminary Final the following Saturday afternoon.

Try a 3 goal win rather than a 9 goal win.

But there's no percentage in finals.

Seriously though sydney got 4 goals up and got ready to cruise in. I saw more boundary work than ever you did at the western oval. They took Hawthorn too lightly and when kelly went off they were already mentally on the plane home.

But I do agree that it would be a monumental effort to get over the Power at footy park.

agree with pessimistic about the game

Sydney showed appalling attitude, bordering on the criminally negligent in not finishing off Hawthorn when they had the chance early in the second quarter.

Paul Williams and Jared Crouch both missed easy shots at goal - absolutely and totally unforgivable.

It seems the Swans are still way too soft in the head to have that ruthless killer instinct that you need to play well in the finals.

I thought Hawthorn were shocking early - but typically Sydney were too dumb to realise that they were being handed the game on a plate and failed to kill off the opposition accordingly.

As soon as the Hawks kicked the first goal of the second quarter to make it 20-12, I knew the Swans were GAWN.

Compare and contrast the performance of the Swans with that of Carlton. After losing to the Crows in general play, but winning on the scoreboard, Carlton made sure that they punished Adelaide in emphatic style by making sure they kicked the opening goals of each quarter - to really crush the Crows' spirit.

Could Sydney do this ? - not in a million fuking years mate !

All credit to Hawthorn for seizing the opportunity and really lifting their game and going on to surge past the silly, muddle-headed, soft as sh|t Swans.

You guys owe us a big thank-you for playing you back into form ! :D

Comments regarding the weak list and lack of quality key postion players at Sydney are valid - but over and above this, as I keep stressing - Sydney are weak in the head and mentally soft.

The game was there to be won - but we squibbed, as usual.

So nonchalant, so sloppy, so uncaring, so goddam soft, so very very Sydney.

cheers

A worrying sign when you lose to alledgedly the softest mental team in the league if you believe our recent press. :)

You are spot on though BSA, when Sydney had the run of the play and their chance they didn't put it on the scoreboard. Fortunately we made the most of our opportunities and half way through the second quarter the Sydney heads really dropped.

I have seen most of Sydney's home games this year and thought Hawthorn were specials to win. The Swans , despite the odd top performance were pretty dreadful skill wise most of this year, were inconsistent, need their best team on the park, and don't have any enforcers ( and if you have a couple of those, you generally beat the Hawks).
Hawks are pretty soft as well, and only had a big win because their opposition were so inept.
The Hawks, along with Sydney and Richmond, are going no where this year, and Adelaide's form against the Dockers was a true indicator.
I think you can put your money on Ess/Port and Bris/Carlt for the prelim Finals now.
