And we know our own players better than you ever will.

If by old Port heroes you mean David Granger, you stand accused by your own comments.

Kane, all that you say is fair enough, perfectly reasonable, but it does have one big hairy testicle of a flaw, that is --

have a look at Bickley's appearance on the Footy Show last Thursday night, it was all a celebration of Bickley's career, no mention whatsoever of that moment of thuggery.

My contention is that Bickley did the crime, he has to do the time, when he is basking in the glory of fame, fair play and achievement, he must also be made to pay up for his crime.

Hence my comment that he does not deserve unconditional adulation

HE DID DO THE TIME that's the point! The guy played 200+ games and captained the side to 2 flags. He was always a great leader on and off the field. If the Footy Show had focussed on that one indiscretion over such a long and wonderful career it would have been in extremely poor taste.

How would you like it if when Matthew Primus, retires instead of talking about his achievements (which come nowhere near Bickley's by the way) everyone talks about the incident of him playing with his penis on the ground?

Get over it!

Here's a mop. Now wipe those tears up off the floor.

So are you telling me that if you stole $2 worth sweets from a local store as kid, this should be brought up at a job interview, your marriage ceremony, fairwell dinner at work, etc...

No one is perfect. Everyone footballer would have at least one incident they regretted on the field. However, to dwell on it is stupid. Bicks got his just desserts at the time & is just a minor blight on his fabulous career at AFC. I am proud of Bicks achievement at the Crows & remember him for the good things.

Go back to the Port Board & whinge over there as you are a grumpy old man. I hope that you can achieve some inner peace in your life, because you sure do hold a grudge. BTW, Johnny Rotten sends his applogies for stealing your lunch in grade 3.

He doesn't have to send his apologies Kane, I gained retribution by beating him to within an inch of his life all those many years ago, I was a Legacy kid.

and Macca23, I'll back my ability to judge any player better than you son.

and and, ;) , David Granger was not in my thinking, more the likes of Bob Clayton, Neville Thiele, Marx Kretschmer, Neville Hayes, Ray Hayes, Ron Elleway, Kevin Salmon, Keith Spencer, Rod Burton, Bruce Light, Jack Spry, Bob Kingston, Reg Beaufoy, Bob Philp, Stephen Clifford, Wayne Broadbridge, Ivan Eckermann, Dennis Errey, John Ede, Chris Natt, Steve Traynor & Doug Spiers.

Every club could have a similar list, but in those days, certain actions were the norm, not the exception. Bickley's action some 30 years ago would hardly have drawn a comment, just a black book note to square up at a later date.

Today however Bickley's action is replayed time and time again, we all know it was deliberate, we all know it was designed to injure, we all know such actions will not be glossed over today.

With all these facts, Bickley must be judged by today's standards, not those relevant to Kretschmer 40 years ago, or Clayton 30 years ago, or even Granger 20 years ago.

That is the difference, Jack Dyer, Teddy Whitten, John Nicholls all did thug acts, but that was the norm when they played, hence those guys, plus lots more are held in high esteem, Bickley must be judged against today's standards, hence he must be judged harshly because today our game is very sanitised

Now DaveW, I don't know what's going on in your life lately, but whatever it is, it's increasing your s h i t on the liver quotient dramatically. We could once have a civil discussion, but now you seem more interested in throw away one-liners designed to belittle, not to be constructive. Whatever it is, I'm not gonna stoop down to that level, especially on this board, because by rules and instructions, I cannot, this is the Adelaide Board, not the Port Board. So what say we forget the childish antics, and get back to good heated discussion, hey mate?

The belittling one-liner was specifically in response to what I quoted. I can't believe that you seriously would have expected Bickley's one report in his entire career to be highlighted last night when they spent all of no more than a minute or two paying tribute to him.

Mark Bickley you are a legend. Thanks for all that you have done for the AFC - you are truely a wonderful player and we will miss you.

I cried like an absolute baby on Friday night @ the GABBA - but it was an honor to be at his last game.

Thanks for the memories.
