You're shooting the messenger a tad there, dyertribe. IMO, BF is just a bit too conservative in its standard of allowable language. :(

But then that's no different to the elderly Brisbane supporters who told me off last night using similar language when getting stuck into the odd umpiring decision. :p

DT, I wasn't going to make it public ... but as you couldn't be bothered reading your PM - I did NOT give you a warning, just an explanation why I edited your post. Just following BF protocol.

Protocol shmotocol... it's the same deal. PM to point it out to me etc...

And yeah I did read it, the 'Deny Receipt' function is a godsend. ;)

As a courtesy I PM'd you to let you know why I had to edit your post (again BF protocol). Time for you to pull your head in, as you have gone over the top suggesting that I had given you a warning ... but if you want one, it can be arranged. ;)

Don't worry I won't, as I don't drink the stuff. Prefer the Coopers product myself.

That was the point ;)

No sane man drinks that p|$$ :D

Thank you to Mark Bickley for a wonderful career at our great football club, which is great, due in no small part, to him.

Courage, leadership and hardwork knew no limits for Bicks and he will be a huge loss from the fabric of the club.

The only blight on his career was the Wakelin incident, which was all the more amazing because it was so out of character.

However, I read once that you only appreciate true beauty when you have ugliness to compare it too.

Perhaps then, that one bad incident, merely shows how great a man and a player he was for the other 271 and nine tenths of games of AFL football that he played.

We all make mistakes, and that was Mark's.

He owned up to it like a man, and it has hurt him, because of his inherent sense of decency and fair play.

For that one incident, he can surely be forgiven.

Mark, we salute you. A true champion of the AFL.

Mark Bickley where do you begin............one of the toughest footy players I have seen, gave 110% everytime he took the feild, an inspirational leader, our back to back premiership captian and all round nice guy:D :D :D He will be sorely missed:( ,goodluck for the future Bicks!!!!!!!!

NO, he cannot

A good player, who had the guts and determination to get the absolute most out of his body and ability.

A true leader of men, a communicator par excellence, a personable bloke with a huge career ahead of him off the field.

Still, that "incident" had sufficient thuggery about it to have left a permanent smear on the jockstrap of his playing days.

If Wakelin can forgive him, surely you can Asgardian.

Life is too short to go on carrying grudges.

I don't care what you Port people think

I meant the general football community

Most Port supporters took great delight in the incident as it gave them something to tarnsih Bickley with. Something they never had before.

It's ironical how they do take this great delight, when you consider they originate from the bowels of the team that took thuggery to a professional level.

Dave Granger anyone??

did you read that article about Wakes in the paper a couple of months ago? 'The Day My Life Changed?' He talked about the incident with Bickley and said how he's over it and it's just one of those things that happened in football.

Look at Bickley's career, there's no reason why it should at all be tarnished by one mistake that he made, if he could, he'd take it back.. Look at some other things that other players do that aren't considered thugs etc, yet Bickley made one mistake in his entire career and he's a thug.. geez, build a bridge and get over it!

Now there's a surprise.

Yes. Yes I'm sure you're right. We took "great delight" in Wakelin's face being broken, and keeping him out of a crucial final. What the hell are you smoking?

Great, a thread that was meant to be a chance to say thanks to a great champion for our club and it's turned into a Port v Crows b!tch fight just like every other thread.

So, should we not defend him from the Port rabble?

and fans with stars in their eyes will forever be blinded by the glitter, not able to see the ugly truth

make it personal if you like, that doesn't worry any Port supporter, attack old Port heroes if you like, we know our own players better than you ever will.

my reason for comment was that Bickley does not deserve unconditional adulation, yes he does deserve credit for all the positives that I mentioned, but he also deserves to have his record permanently tarnished because of actions he deliberately utilised.

Not big on forgiveness are you. Bicks regretted deeply his actions on Wakelin. It was out of character & he righly took his punishment on the chin.

Don't let life drag you down by past burdens. Should concentrate on the better things, rather than worry about all the bad things.

Kane, all that you say is fair enough, perfectly reasonable, but it does have one big hairy testicle of a flaw, that is --

have a look at Bickley's appearance on the Footy Show last Thursday night, it was all a celebration of Bickley's career, no mention whatsoever of that moment of thuggery.

My contention is that Bickley did the crime, he has to do the time, when he is basking in the glory of fame, fair play and achievement, he must also be made to pay up for his crime.

Hence my comment that he does not deserve unconditional adulation
