Blues finally come good!

Over the years the Carlton Football Club and I haven’t got on all that famously. When I played against them I had a few enemies and I wasn’t proud of some things that happened on the field. But with Wayne Schimmelbusch and me riding from Port Fairy to Geelong to raise money for St Mary’s House of Welcome and DOXA, we knocked on AFL club doors asking for participants to either ride with us or donate. Sadly, out of the clubs we tried, only one saw fit to donate and send a player. It was Carlton and the player nominated was Jarrad Waite. As Brett Ratten said: “It’s a good cause, Waitey’s in rehab and he can come along and ride with you blokes.” Waite’s father Vin played in two premiership sides under Ron Barassi and Wayne Schimmelbusch and I played against him so it’s clear that his son has great character too.

Carlton are such a heartless club. :thumbsd:

DOXA sounds like a very worthwhile cause.

Pick up the draft issue of Inside Football which is a good read and usually their best issue for the year. :thumbsu:

Jim Main gives me the shits, and he along with Crackers, are big reasons why I don't buy IF ... Their blatant anti-Carlton agenda they come up over several years, not to mention the fact that the price of that rag is rip off and not value for money, is a big reason why i don't buy it often anymore.

Remember when Crackers posted that 'nasty' rumour earlier this year about an draftee from last year's draft possibly going to jail on an breaking and entering charge from WA last year ? (and no prizes for guessing whom the alleged player was)

Unless your a draft nerd who feels the need to obsess over the need to get the info on the list of potential draftees, i wouldn't bother wasted the 7 dollars on this rag.

Doxa is a great cause and it's great to see the Blues get behind it. Have been lucky enough to see Doxa at work, and it's a great thing for kids who haven't been as fortunate as others

Father Joe Giacobbe, who has been instrumental in Doxa, deserves a knighthood IMHO.

And agree with Alpha, great post TG

This story received a mention in the Sunday Age today using a photo of Waitey alongside to draw attention to it. :thumbsu:

There are two charities involved, Doxa and St Mary's House of Welcome in Fitzroy.

Barrassi, Keenan and Schimmelbush will leave Port Fairy tomorrow and ride to Geelong along the Great Ocean Road.

Waite will join them on Wednesday if he doesn't extend his stay at the Queensland Academy of Sport.

Waite might be more acclimatised to the 30 degree heat than Crackers, Barrass and Schimmelbush.

I always buy the two post season editions, as I am in fact, a draft nerd and can tolerate alternative opinions.

Just be wary CP, your disendorsement of this product is likely to result in a sharp increase in sales.

I love reading Inside Football. Yes, Crackers can come up with the worst sniping at the Carlton Football Club of any journo around but for the most part I enjoy reading the news and opinion pieces in this magazine.

I enjoy reading the alternative view of informed football people even when those views don't conform to those of the Carlton Football Club. Interesting how much you can learn when you combine the views of the football club with those of the other side.

It is small pieces such as this that I appreciate. It is the acknowledgmene that we have done good, better than other clubs, when it is appropriate that makes me admire those outside opinions. They may hate us but that hate is one of respect. Truly the greatest type of hatred you can attain and after all of these years we still have it folks. Feels damn good.

What crackers wrote in that column was 'irresponsible journalism' and most of the stories he writes in the column are utter rot ...

BTW In the past few years, their draft predictions, especially for the first round and top 10 picks has been way off the mark,so I wouldn't take it seriously, their draft rankings are as stupid and 'clairvoyant' as Colin Wiseby.

They may be off the mark but I received them when I was in the USA and the description of the players kept me involved in other teams. I found several of their analysis to be spot on several years after they were drafted. May have gotten the order completely wrong (who doesn't?) but their analysis of players is generally close.

You need to understand that Crackers' corner isn't meant to be sophisticated journalism. It's a chance for him to just let some crap out and what sticks, sticks. It was nice for him to give us a wrap. To me it's like going down to the local pub to have a couple of drinks with the local footy hero and hearing the sort of crap that they spout there. It's entertainment, it's not rocket science.

That is all.

My sister through her job worked with another charity group White Lion Organisation (os something ver y close). Not 100% sure but think Bolts Manoton had a lot to do with that. I remember her telling me this Jordan guy was awesome and he played for my footy tem (bannister) was at least 2 years ago. Its really encouraging to hear some positive stuff about your club.

We're not all gangstas down at princess park.

Yes, I believe Glenn Manton founded the white Lion charity group (he spoke about it earlier this year on SEN and he is very passionate about his work with young kids, seems like a top bloke the Bolt is :D)

Also I think former player Glen Bowyer founded another young people's support group as well, which led him to winning the women of Carlton ambassdor of the year award one year, and don't ask me why i can remember such an obscure fact like that, because I can't ... :D

Generaly though back to the IF draft issue, I hate phantom drafts and draft previews in whole, because they are wildly inaccurate and i'd be surprised if anyone got more then a 20 percent success rate in picking all the draftees in order on draft night.

Love to hear these kinds of stories, it's nice to know that despite the team being focused on other things they still have time to help out the strugglers of the world

CP are you in Melb? I'm in Tassie and copies of Inside Football are $5.95 from my local newsagent (I have to get them to hold me a copy because all they are allocated is 3, pfft), or were you being sarcastic with the whole $7 comment.
I buy it for exactly the same reason as someone else said, a collective view of other people thoughts and ideas on everything football. It would be a strange old world if we all thought the same ideas and loved the same teams.
I take Carlton bashing in my stride - they are just jealous

Oh okay, I overpriced it by a dollar, my mistake :)

It's not just Crackers column that annoys me, the Ox just writes crap that everyone talked about over the weekend and repeats ad nauseum on SEN, Jim Main constantly flames Carlton whether he gets the oppotunity, and is very narky in his responses to Carlton fans who write in, and around the Coffee Urn is a rip off of the at the bar column in the HUN.

It really doesn't give you much further info or news that you can't get from the Herald Sun or The Age (in Melbourne anyway)

It's a unique publication though, I enjoy the write ups on all the teams, both pre and post match, the letters, the wraps on the VFL, WAFL and SANFL etc.
We don't get SEN down here (sometimes I think that's a good thing, judging by comments on here!) and the HUN and Age would cost far more to buy everyday, so I spend $6 a week and fight over the HUN with the guys at work. Works for me!
