Well done England

Even if it didnt rain enough to alter the target I have no doubt we would have won, chasing 250 on the SCG under lights in those conditions is not easy

Nope. I got on England at the start of Australias innings at $6.50. Ridiculous odds really, considering Sydney is pretty much the hardest place to bat under lights.

I believe it will be remembered, its the only time Australia have lost a finals series in a very long time, it will come up, Australia head into the finals only having lost 1 finals series in 20 years or so that against England in 2007 :thumbsu:

I guess its better than not making them, 2002 was it?

Why are you so sure they would have chased down the target? It was humid and overcast and wasnt easy batting conditions

you're right, i have no proof that we would have mown 'em down but with our quick start, i believe we would have nudged singles and coasted at 4 an over

The rain in the end didnt affect the match, it hurt us during our innings and it hurt Australia but we recovered to put a competitive total on the board on what were not superb conditions for batting.

you lost a wicket - we lost a wicket + 50-odd runs...

the bottom line is that we had 17 overs or 102 deliveries taken from us and only 43 runs deducted from the total - in relative terms, that made England's original target worth more than 300 runs

think of it this way - it was the difference between chasing 245 off 300 deliveries (4.9 rpo) VS 187 off 162 (6.9 rpo)...i know which i'd have preferred

that said, i am not complaining - you grabbed your chances and I have already complimented the English team on one of the more remarkable turnarounds in recent times

not really - no one remembers when South Africa beat us in the ODI series a few years back...only that the Waughs were 'retired' as a result

this tour will be remembered as an abject failure in terms of competitive cricket played or entertainment value

well done to the visitors for salvaging a positve out of a train-wreck tour but it's a shame for all of us that England only managed to find their mojo in the final 10 days of a 3-month tour

Maybe, but the ball was swinging and that side has shown it is very suspect in those conditions

Think of it this way, the Aussies had less chance to lose wickets with less overs, teams always do well at the death so D/L effectively removes the middle, boring overs. The target went down basically by the equivalent of all of Englands 17 lowest scoring overs which was the old system and as some have said, the Aussies quick start may have been attributed to the weather and thats why they came out firing.

I'd prefer the target the Aussies had, 20/20 style chase and teams can get in trouble chasing those middle totals because they do try and cruise to the target and can fall apart as a result

Actually plenty of people remember, I dont remember that was the time the Waughs retired, all I remember is Australia missed the final

This tour ended up alot more competitive than nearly every other tour down here for the last 7 years, although it is a shame it took untill the last 2 weeks

If you remember, why did you just say that we had only lost 1 series in 20 odd years, and that to you?

You cant call a tour where you lost every test match competitive.

They have only lost 1 finals series, big difference

It was more competitive, most sides down here have lost every test and been smashed in the one dayers and finals

Well done to the soap dodgers, sadly no one will remember this in 6 months time while the 5-0 will be remembered forever. 5 years ago NZ had the wood over us so much that we didn't even make the final.

But you remembered something from 5 years ago. ;)

All this "no-one will remember it in x amount of time" talk is just loser deflection chatter. Of course the Ashes are more coveted and the 5-0 scoreline more memorable, but the bottom line is that we lost the finals in the one day tournament 2-0 to a better English side. Give credit where it's due to a remarkable turnaround (and that goes to everyone else) instead of trying to do the "loser deflection shuffle".

The ONLY reason I remember it is because of Michael Bevan's effort against the Kiwis at the MCG. Best knock I've seen. Also I wasn't really into Test cricket at all back then.

I've given congratulations to the soap dodgers who aren't idiots. I can easily do that because frankly I don't really care - not loser talk, just honestly how I feel.

However, I believe chaps like Steady Eddie desperately trying to convince himself and others that this win will go down in history is the real "loser deflection shuffle". I mean if an Aussie brought up that we won the ODI series in 05 they would be laughed at and rightly so.

Wasn't that series tied? Ah, well- good on the Poms for winning something- but to be honest, people will remember who won the World Cup, not a rinky dink tri series that was essentially a preparation for three sides.

Still wondering why eddie hasn't gone back to his Slopster avatar, since ol' Sloppy finally got back on track after about a 6 week slump.

settle down - there has been plenty of credit given

as someone has already noted, i gained little solace from winning the one-dayers in 2005

the tri-series is a meaningless sideline event - i'd prefer to win it than not but don't really care if we lose the odd one while tinkering in the build-up to the WC

England tinkered with their line up and won. Whether or not it will carry onto the World Cup remains to be seen. If they play like they did in the last 4 games they will go a long way.

Why cant more Aussies have this attitude?
