Youngster Evan Johnson is just one of 11 Box Hill Hawks players given permission by the AFL to train with Hawthorn Football Club this pre-season.

Joining Johnson from Box Hill are teammates Ryan Breese, Richard Eva, Stuart Hill, John Holmes, Andrew Jansen, Paul Jolly, Nick Kane, Ben McGlynn, Brendan Rinaldi and Brendan Weinart.

It's more of a case of keeping the Box hill youth together and improving the alliance with Hawthorn so the players know each other, rather than challenging for a spot - however, there are 3-4 that have the potential to make a rookie spot.

Pretty much, EE. A few guys might be in line for a rookie spot given their raw potential - it really depends if they think they should rookie them this year or give them another VFL year and think about rookie listing them later on.

pretty sure evan johnson has no chance of a rookie spot and is just there because of the box hill alliance.

good luck anyway
I dunno about that - given the lack of quality in this year's draft, wouldn't surprise me if they rookied someone from this group instead.

Good call DIG. This rookie draft could see a few VFL blokes picked up. Whilst Box Hill didn't really have a VFL standout player, I reckon we could see a few fringe senior players that showed talent in the VFL ressies picked up.

All depends on how we view their scope for development, but out of the group that is training is a kid that I view as a young, young footballer that could develop in time.

Good call Big Bird, however I reckon this guy will go in the national draft, I have watched him in the Tassie Devils for the past 5 years and he is ready to have a crack at senior AFL footy. Has proven himself to be a guy who can totally dominate VFL games and I'd say is at the point in his career where he will either be up to it straight away or a long term VFL player, worth a pick in the 20's
