Nick Maxwell has been appointed one of four new executives on the AFL Players' Association (AFLPA), along with skippers Luke Ball and Luke Power, and Bulldogs Robert Murphy.

This comes as Joel Bowden and Brett Burton have become the new president and vice president respectively, replacing both Peter Bell, and Nathan Buckley, who stepped down.

AFLPA executive committee
President: Joel Bowden (Richmond)
Vice-President: Brett Burton (Adelaide)
Members: Luke Ball (St Kilda)
Adam Goodes (Sydney)
Tom Harley (Geelong)
Nick Maxwell (Collingwood)
Robert Murphy (Western Bulldogs)
Luke Power (Brisbane Lions)
Darryl Wakelin (Port Adelaide)
Past player representative: Simon Garlick
Chief Executive: Brendon Gale

I think it is an amazing effort. Maxwell is surrounded by skippers, best and fairest winners, all-australians, veterans, etc. Maxwell is yet to play 50 games and his leadership has been recognised before season 2007, gaining this, and also being a member of the Pies leadership group.

And some of you guys laughed at me when I said Maxwell is very likely to be the next captain of Collingwood?

Sorry to be a bit of a downer, but all players that nominated themselves for the positions were appointed. I agree it will be great for Maxy, it shows he's got a good head on his shoulders and leadership material but I don't think it is or will be his best achievement this year.

Good hard brave kid, Maxwell. if he's as organised and determined off the field as he is on it, then the players have a very able rep.

Do you remember last year when Maxwell was on his knees and Jonathon Brown ran into him with the knees out? Brown was nearly knocked out and Maxwell got up and kept playing. He's tough alright.

Nick broke something as well, he continued on unawares. Those players have got the temperament to be there on the last Saturday of September. No doubts about that. We need a few more players in that mould.

PieLebo,

Buckley may hand over the captaincy to Nick Maxwell. As far as I'm concernced Maxy is captaincy material.

Maxwell is certainly ready for the captaincy as an indvidual but as a player I'm not quite so sure. Heater has put together a season better than any seasons Maxwell has ever had and would be ahead of him in the captaincy race. Nick still needs to put together one maybe 2 more good seasons.

Probably the most courageous thing of last season was that moment, but Maxwell wouldn't gain one bit of recognition from the commentators or media after it. When i got home and watched the replay, I was furious when Steve Quartermain jumped out of his seat and said how brave Brown was.

Maxwell would end up playing a further couple of minutes, before realising he had fractured his leg in some way...whether it was a calf or the leg, the diagnosis was quite unknown at the time and in the duration of him missing.

Maxwell would miss 6 games with the injury, and with his lack of presence, we would lose 4 of the next 5 games after his injury!!!

bring on round 1, i'm so pumped after that memory, it was brilliant and the turning point in this kids career, he will only captain the maggies if Heath shaw chooses not to.
but a 200 game player for sure,

Off-field clearly outstanding.
If he wants to be captain of the club , then he will have to obviously step up from handy to being a very good , inspirational mid-size back.
He finished the season fairly poorly after coming back from the broken leg , let's hope he can keep the good form of his pre-season up.
Well done on being elected to the panel too.

according to this week, it does.
Er... no it doesn't. Just because your players are dicheads doesn't mean that everything is based about them. Please go back to the West Coast board, if you aren't going to talk about Collingwood. Goodbye.

interesting note (more for you tarks24)

the AFLPA dreamteam is up on sportal with bowden and co. looks like they dont have a pic of Nick so they put Tarkyn Lockyer up instead.

Haha
