There is no one I respect more in the sport of Australian Rules.

There is no one that typifies the spirit of the St Kilda Football Club more.

There is no one courageous or inspirational than you are.

(That sounds a little emotional doesn't it?) ;)

Nathan Burke, you are an absolute legend and I feel privileged to have seen you play.

I hope you not only celebrate your 300th game with a win but can go on and play for another 3 or 4 years and achieve the ultimate and win a premiership for the saints.

I don't think I am asking too much there. ;)

If the saints players can't lift for you on this day I will be ashamed. It also seems little anti-climatic for the game to be played in Canberra of all places but you will do us proud.

Also I congratulate Aaron Hamill (a Canberra boy himself) on his 100th game. He made a brave decision to join the saints and despite not hitting top form as yet, has quickly became a favourite because of his hardness at the ball.

One day they should build a statue outside Linton Street of Nathan Burke, so all players that walk into that ground know what should be expected of them.
An absolute inspiration to the Saints, who with any luck may have had a Brownlow around his neck.
He came 1 vote behind Hird & Voss in 96, after not polling a vote in the famous Lights out game at Waverly, where he was very close to BOG in the first part on the Saturday night. The umpires forgot about that when giving votes after the Tuesday night resumption.

I dont want to rain on the parade, Nathan Burke is a courageous, selfless, tough, uncompromising, inspirational football player that I believe everyone respects for the way he plays the game.

But to say he typifies the spirit of St.Kilda is a little off the mark. I believe that if the rest of the St.Kilda Football Club emulated what Burke has done for 299 games, they would be a much stronger and sucessfull club.
Anyway enough negativity, cheers and best wishes to Nathan Burke. Heres hoping the kids in our side look to you for inspiration and to how the game should be played. If they do the Saints will be in good stead for the coming years.

I echo everyone's sentiments.
Burke, Loewe & Harvey, 3 brilliant footballers, why aren't they playing for the Bombers. ;)

Ohhh...if not for the AFL's idea of 'equalisation'...the Salary Cap ;)

Good luck Burkey. You are an credit to yourself, football and the St.Kilda Football Club.

Congratulations to the AFL's newest life member!

Hats off to you Nathan - one of the greats. All opposition supporters salute you.

Couldn't have put it any better. Well done Burkey, hope you try to get to 400!

an absolute legend

i've often heard saints supporters say of the players, 'if they could play with the same passion as we have for the club and the jumper then we would be a great side'. this is probably why we (all saints supporters) are united in our admiration and respect for the way burkey plays his football and for the man himself.

if i had the talent to play afl footy i would like to think that i would play the same way as burkey. in every one of his 299 games he has been courageous, tough, fearless, unselfish, and has always had a never say die attitute. i have never seen him think of himself before the team.

as an ambassador to the club you could not find anyone better. he is friendly and approachable to all supporters, handles the media in an easy and personable way and does a lot of work with kids.

if the players this saturday play the same way as burkey has for 299 games we will win easily.

club captain, 3 all australians, victoria rep plenty of times, b/f winner, 2nd in brownlow, team of the century, all acheived with good grace and modesty.

congratulations on 300 burkey you are a st kilda legend.

This post has nothing to do with the fact that I think this thread should remain on the front page of the message boards until Saturday's game.

:D :D :D

and near the top Sainter :D

To me Burkie represents honesty in a footballer. Sure there's plenty around with greater talent, but there aren't many who consistently give to the maximum of their ability week in week out as he does.

I really hope he can play for a few more years yet & I think it would be fitting for him to enjoy more success than he has to date.

Burkie, as a supporter, you have made some of my dark days a bit more tolerable. Thank you.
