We played like shit. But having said that, the opposition was just too good on the day. Port played wity passion, commitment, desire, and most importantly.......skill.
Essendon had no desire, or commitment, and they just expected to just continue from where they left off last year.
That's taking nothign away from Port who were sensational. They probably should have won by 100 points such was their poor kickign for goal. Francis, Tredrea, Primus, James, Carr and Wakelin, were all fantastic.
The only players who can hold their head high for Essendon were Hille, Rioli and perhaps the Johnsons.
But......it's a long, long season. When Essendon last won a flag in 1993, they won the 1994 pre-season cup. This lulled the team into a false sense of security and they finished 11th in 1994. After winning so many games and seeming unbeatable, this is the wake up call, Essendon needed. They won't be lulled into a false sesne of security this time like they were in 1994. No way in hell.
