thanks dan, its good to see good sportsmanship in this often distubingly spiteful game

what a great second half. bombers were impressive in first half, but the pies managed to kick into the gear we know they have and play to their best.

woohoo

To be honest I don't think there is a major signficant difference between the teams. Up until half way through the last term, it was one of the tightest, closest games I have been to. Collingwood just stepped up that notch, and credit goes to them for that.

Tough pill to swallow though, I can tell you.

Yeah well done pies
As much as it hurts i just want a vic team to win the big one
If it has to be the Pies then so be it

Awesome win Maggies...courageosly fought out. Showed Australia that you deserve that second spot

Good stuff dan! It was a classic contest and thye bombers were fantastic. Their defence was awesome, all night but the midfeild i thought didnt give enough. Our defence had more experience, as a group and again left me speechless. LLyod who? Wakes killed him and then Jimmy killed him. This guy is the best forward in the comp. Essendon won too many one on one contests for my liking, but to the pies credit they dug deep and came through. GO PIES!!!! and here comes september.

Cheers Dan.

The big difference was that in the first half you were relying on outstanding efforts from 4 or 5 players, especially Rioli Hird and Solomon. Collingwood had a more even effort amongst its 22. In the second half, those Bombers were pretty well spent, and the side was unable to find anybody else to carry them through.

Our bottom 6, whilst enderrated and sometimes maligned by Pies supporters, was the difference in this game. We simply had more depth and more positional options, as evidenced by how easily we covered the loss of Wakelin.

We also stuffed up alot of them to. Kicking the ball right over team mates heads. Something you'd think they should have remembered from the carlton game, but didn't. coll, to there credit, seemed to go low and long all the time, with still like weather results.

I think we have (had) too many options in the midfield and attack for the Bombers. If not for their backline who is one of the best in the business, we would have won by more. Great blanket job on Lloyd.

The Pies won it in the clearances, I reckon. 12-4, it was. I thought we looked a bit more accomplished than the Pies when we had the ball away from the clearances, but Collingwood were better in close.

Dan,
Essendon's half forward line was the most ineffectual "line" of either team. We rebounded very well.
I was asking myself early in the last qtr why wasn't Lucas thrown fwd and Jacobs put on Rocca. That may have caused us some problems.

when MM can use a bunch of on ballers that does NOT include Burns and O'Bree, as they spent the entire game forward, then our midfielders were well and truely on top.
Woey played possibly he second best game for the year.
Scotland's first half was brilliant
Bucks played as if he was not being tagged, although he was.
Lica was everywhere.

As a result the stat about centre clearences tells it all.

The Dons just ran out of legs. I guess its a question of age. Certainly they showed more skill, and converted more efficiently. Maybe we had 2 marking forwards to 1? Maybe Fraser got the better of Hille? In the ned i think it was Essendon's long term injuries that spklit the sides, nothing else.

Another Essendon supporter offering congratulations.

The game lived up to the hype and out of it in reality, even allowing for Wakelin's injury, it's not significant. No reports (although someone was saying to me earlier Tarrant could be up for something...didn't see anything myself) and the game was played in the best possible spirit.

My only hope is that should you make the grand final, just win it please.

It's fair to say the game could have still gone either way up until the 22 minute mark of the last, which is a fair indication of how well both teams match-up on each other.

Best of luck in September.
