Deledio was offered a development contract with Vic Cricket a couple of years ago as part of a scheme to try and prevent the best young cricket prospects going to football. He turned it down. That suggests that he is football focussed.
Interestingly Shannon Hurn who played for SA in the u/18 championships this year and played in the senior premiership for Centrals a couple of weeks a go has got a rookie contract with the Redbacks for the coming season. Will be interesting to see whether he goes footy or cricket.

If you have a champion midfield consisting of 5-6 players, it would not only give us first use of the ball out of the centre but it would also take the heat off the backline.

Exactly. A champion midfield makes the rucks look better, makes life easy for the forwards and takes pressure off the backs.

We're rebuilding people ...let's get the midfield right first.

Then the forwards(although we're alright there anyway)

Get Deledio at 1. i genuinely hope Franklin is drafted 2 0r 3 so we're forced to get another midfielder...Griffen short term..Tambling (possibly longer)

Understand what ya saying IDGAF.however 2 points about this.
1/-look at the saints and port for example.both sides dont have a champion backline so to speak but work as a unit.
2/-if you have a very strong midfeild ala port and saints then your backline "problems" are halved.

cheers!
Fair enough , i do agree that the midfield is the most integral part of any side but it is an interesting point you make with the saints and port .

St Kilda lost to Port Adelaide in the prelim for one reason only , St. Kilda had no backline .

St. Kilda had something nearly in the order of 100 possesions more than Port ( if my memory serves me correctly ) who are the highest possesion winning team in the league . I`m not sure of the stats regarding goals per 50 entry from that game but i`m pretty sure that port only went inside 50 4 times for 3 goals in the first qtr. St Kilda peppered and were all over Port like a cheap suit but every time port went forward the scored because the saints backline was attrocious , Max Hudgton- pathetic , Luke Penny - ordinary .

Ask Grant Thomas if he wished he had a stronger backline ?

or you could say port had a backline :D
you can also say the saints backline was the same one that got it to a prelim.
i do agree tho a side does need one backman who is above average.

cheers!

I have a growing feeling that we will take Franklin No1 , theory being that Deledio and Tambling would definately follow leaving us with the highly rated SA youngster Griffin.

If we were to go Deledio first then Im positive either Hawks or Bulldogs would snare Franklin, more likely Bulldogs

Only concern here is that we would be picking 2 interstaters which means extra bucks required at contract time to keep them...
I also heard that Franklin will be our nbr one pick, grooming him with jackson for our kpp (backline)

cheers

Deledio is the standout, not by much, but enough to warrant us taking him number 1...

That then leaves Franklin, Tambling, Griffen and Roughhead (just a whisper Monfries) for us to take at the number 4.

All I can say Tiger fans is we finally get two really excellent draft picks no matter what...

Im happy. Just for fun this is how I see it turning out:

1. Richmond : Brett Deledio
2. Hawthorn : Richard Tambling
3. Bulldogs : Lance Franklin
4. Richmond : Ryan Griffen

That would be an awesome get as it would solve our midfield woes. Add Coughlan and Raines to Deledio and Griffen and WOW, we are set for 10 years.

Hi Guys what about if it goes like this

1. Richmond : Deledio
2. Hawthorn : Roughead
3. Bulldogs : Franklin
4. Richmond : Tambling/Griffen
5. Hawthorn : Tambling/Griffen

Which one would you want Richmond to pick up then

Our Midfield is our major concern.furthermore Deledio is capable of playing in a number of positions.he can go fwd and kick a goal.A combination of Brown + Deledio swapping in the fwd line is ideal.
Franklin maybe good but Deledio is better and a much safer pick :)
Even if the hawks pick both Franklin and Roughead[highy doubtful] with 2+3 we then have a choice of Tambling or Griffen.if on Franklin is taken we will have the choice of either Griffen or Tambling.Result our midfield problem solved.
we then have 2 further picks in the teens to add to our list a KPP.

cheers!

If this is the way it works out, I'll be a very happy supporter

I hope you dont take Franklin at number 1 means we will prob end up with Tambling at 3, he is the only one in the top 5 that i dont want. Hopefully Franklin is still there at number 3 for us. ;)

Without a midfield we are stuffed. There is not point recruiting forwards if we don't have possession in the midfield and don't have anyone to pass is forward, and there is no amount of good defenders in the world who can stop our opponents kicking a winning score if we are being trounced in the midfield and are having the ball fed into our backline 100 times per match.

Agreed, picking up quality midfielders will improve the delivery into the forward line making it more efficient, and also offer more protection to our defenders than they have had in the past. We have some forward options in Brown and Kraks who are being forced to play in the midfield too much in my opinion because of a lack of quality there. If they can be freed up to play mostly in the forward line, along with the likes of Richo, Simmonds, Stafford and Schulz and we have plenty of options (on paper)

You can also be sure that if there is any toughness issues with any of the draft picks i think Wallet will take the safe option every pick. Deledio at 1 for mine.
