Wellingham SUSPENDED by club

The guy just can't concentrate long enough to get on the right track.

after 2010 granny i thought he would breakout but rly he has regressed.

lazy attitude all through last year and this incident (however you put it) is a result of the way he approaches his football.

I'm all for the punishment.

and to those who are saying that we are overreacting...well i actually think this is on par with the heath shaw incident... what he has done is shown utter disdain for the club's rules.

i play semi-professional soccer and if we had a match on the sat and the night before one of the first 11 players missed the warmup we would be fuming...

Wellers need to wake up to reality that he is not in the top 10 players at the club. At his age and with his talent he should be aspiring to be in the elite category. Yet, he keeps doing silly things on and off field that frustrate not only the fans but the coaching staff.

I dare say with GWS circling he may be one of the players put up for trade end of the year.. Buddy can then go visit him in Western Sydney.

Wellinghams last indescretion was 4 years ago as a 19yo. Yet it seems it isn't considered irrelevant but many. Yet Swans is. I actually think it highlights an interesting difference in standards. Players get judged differently based on ability.
IMHO this is thrown into sharp contrast when you hear Nick Maxwell talking about getting up multiple times during the night to ice an ankle knock and barely getting any sleep.

What Wellingham's done is no hanging offence in itself, just shows you why one guy (prolly the less talented of the two) is captain, and the other isn't.

I think it highlights that not every player/person matures at the same rate.
Not everyone is born with Luke Balls maturity which the football world seems to expect from these young men. Tarrant slowly matured over the last 12 years into the person he is now and only ability kept him on a list. Unfortunately for AFL players their acts of immaturity usually end up on the back page because of their profession.

I bet if Big Footy posters were held to the same standards/consequences there wouldn't be a enough papers to publish all the misdemeanours. That's why the outrage always makes me laugh.

I'll cheer when you come back Sharrod. :D

No probably's about it Sharrod has more talent in his left nut than Maxwell. You do raise a very valid point about the mind set of the two though!

Sharrod you might recall basically cost Collingwood the TAC Sponsorship, I don't think Sharrod would have thought it too funny when Ed went three shades of purple.

It's been a while between drinks (ahh, that's good, good pun) but he's not in the position to be arsing about. It's not that it cost a game or anything like that, just shows where his commitment is at on the eve of the season.

I think he's a great player and hope he really knuckcles down.

and Using Tarrant as a Good Example

I don't agree with the Tarrant reference. He's more the exception than the norm. He was just lucky to have MM as a coach for so long. For the majority of his coaching career MM was loathe to drop best 22 players no matter how badly they transgressed.

For mine I'd just love for Krakouer to take Sharrod under his wing and remind him how precious being part of the AFL is and to view it as a privelage rather than a right...

Strikes me as a player that hasn't totally comitted yet - its about time he chose.

Agree with this, you get the feeling he is biding his time. But I hope not, loved the way he ripped the Demons apart last year, showed what he's made of-he's a hot and cold kid right now but I'd hate to see him anywhere else other than Collingwood in the long-run.

On the flipside I'm sure the sponsor that replaced the TAC brought in more revenue. It was a combination of incidents not just from Collingwood players that caused the TAC to stop their sponsorship with the club.

Anyway, no doubt Sharrod needs to pull his thumb out, but it's not like he's gone out and started a fight, he's gotten lazy and needed a wake up call.

As per his game V the Dees last year - exceptional for an up and coming player stepping into the breach and producing big time :thumbsu:

But

Goes missing too often and not only onfield.

Being a player is more than just those couple of hours on the grass every week, its doing the miles on the track and going the extra for the club :(

Buckley and Mathouse disagreed on this. Mathews has said many times that he doesn't like to drop players and penalise the side (or his chances of winning). Buckley on the hand is showing all that he will not tolerate transgressions. Personally I think players lives are too controled but how we handled Tarrant only hurt us and in the end Tarrant. A line has to be drawn somewhere. Buckley draws it pretty close to zero tolerance.

I like the low tolerance approach myself (zero's to extreme) because it sets a standard. It's then up to the players to adhere to it....

He blew .13 and it was the killer blow to the sponsorship worth 500k. But that wasn't the only issue. We were embarrassed by it because of our 7 year involvement with the TAC and involvement in the TAC campaigns and ads. It was actually the club that pulled out because it had basically undermined the whole message.

It was a long time ago and nothing much since then. Two weeks okay penalty.

Didn't a short time before Cam Cloke got caught speeding, Morrison drink driving (that might have been after I can't recall) and Richmond had a few problems as well who also had the TAC as sponsors? Soon after the TAC stopped sponsoring clubs altogether.

Anyway I agree, Wellingham's current suspension matches what he did.

Was Morrison on a scooter?
