If you could trade for Daniel Wells at season's end what would you be willing to give up... if anything at all? Would he suit our team?

...

I don't think Woosh would want him due to his average work rate.

Also I remember Wells saying that he wanted to play out his career in Melbourne, before he got drafted, as that was where the "real football" was or something. It was in the West.

I went to the North match last week and watched Wells very closely.

1) Laidley plays him in the worst position for him, out of the action.

2) Even so, he has the worst work rate I have ever seen. Walk...jog...walk...stand still...walk...

i don't think we'll be that active in trade week (as usual) but if we were looking at targets, i definetaly wouldn't want one of them to be daniel wells. he really is not in good form at the moment.

He was being played sitting in the forwardline because hes clearly injured. That explains #2 aswell. Could be out for a while with it. Better example of Wells would be any game in 2008 especially in the 2nd half where he had a really great year.

Anyway not sure why this thread exists he is staying with us for the rest of his career. No trade would ever get done because we would need at least a 1st rounder and nobody would give that up.

The guy that said he is injury prone is right. Hopefully the latest one doesn't hang around that long.

A game breaking outside mid is what we need. Embley isn't doing it anymore, preferring to (either by choice or by order) pick up cheap stats. We need some finishing quality with our outside mids. Some goals and lace out passes to forwards.
Wells fits the description yes, but his inconsistency, injury history and lazy nature are major drawbacks.
Would much rather go for a blease-esque raw outside prospect in the draft than trade a pick for wells.
The idea is right, but the opportunity is wrong.

I would trade a 2nd round pick for him. Not that i rate him as a superstar and i agree that he is mentally lazy. So that is the risk attached to him. But a secound round pick is a risk aswell. You are not assured of getting a quality player by any means.

You guys need to remember the name of the game with trading is the same as the markets. But low and sell high. Human nature pushes us to do the opposite. Don't keep dreaming of buying Ablett's etc. You will never get them. If you can find a mid range player with plenty of years left on the clock at another club who can play a role in your side then you should consider it if you can get them at a cheap price. Given our lack of outside mids with quality disposal if he was available for a second round pick i would roll the dice and back that the change in environment and coaching staff might get more consistency from him.

The kangaroos would never trade him for that though. They still dream of him becoming the player they wanted him to become when they drafted him and would base their valuation of him on that rather than what he has actually done. It would be like trying to convince someone who bought centro shares for $5 and dreamed of them going to $10 (and held on to the all the way down convinced that they would go to $10) to sell you the shares for 10 cents each (which is what the market says they are worth now). They won't do it. In their mind the shares are still worth $10. Facing reality is too painful. Would be the samne deal with the kangas and Wells.

We tried:o.

I agree with your point though.

A replacement for Wirra, a genuine reliable tall forward, whether CHF or FF we just need one because we have other players who can fill in for a lead up or stay at home role (and play the foil) but not do either decisively.

Last and most importantly we need a pacy, line breaking mid with good footskills and delivery not just a huge booming kick.

Whilst Hurn and Lynch have either a great kick or in Lynchs case good disposal by foot, neither quite fit all the aspects required and are more frequently used in alternate rolls.

Buy low, sell high, that's my motto. I may just quit my job at the power plant and become a full-time stock... market guy.

He'd be of limited value for us unless we got him at a crazy bargin.

We'd probably be smartest to stack up on draft picks and have them peak at the same time, rather than go for guys like Wells who'll screw up the cycle.

Your point being?
Simpsons reference.

But I guess the point is that "buy low and sell high" is a pretty obvious strategy. Even Homer figured that much out.

It's up there with "try to kick more goals" as a strategy to win footy games.

Oh, so it was it was a lame attempt at being smart and witty that wasn't funny or witty at all and fell flat on it's face then. Well that clears the confusion up.

Oddly enough trading financial instruments is what i do for a living. And i can see be the weird guy who works at the power plant and sits on his own at lunchtime while the other employees breathe a sigh of relief that he didn't try and sit with them is your life.

Are you going to actually express an opinion in this thread or just do your usual trick of critiqueing everyone elses? Probably not, right? But, hey, thats why you come here, not to express an opinion or contribute in a meaningful way but to seek and ego boost and compensate by attempting to ridicule others. We all know that.
