If anyone screwed anyone over then its the AFC screwing Welsh.

They offered him a one year deal and told Welsh if he did certain things they would give him another one year deal. When Welshy asked for those things to be put in writing in his contract we said no.

Welsh did nothing wrong. Why would he trust a club that just delisted Jason Torney after his career best year. He wanted some security that would guarantee him 2nd year of the contract if he met certain criteria. The fact that AFC wanted him to verbally agree to those clauses and were not prepared to put them in the contract in black and white leads to one conclusion, no matter how good a season Welsh had, he was never going to play for the AFC beyond 2008 season.

Though the Bulldogs probably won't have them both for too long because they (Hudson and Welsh) are nearing their 30s (Welsh 30 in December, Hudson 29 this year, [correct me if i am wrong]) and are both injury-prone so i'd expect them to only last max.3 years. But they were of respectable service to the Crows and thats what matters.

But isn't that more than they were looking for at our club?

They would both be happy with that if it turns out that way one would have thought.

I wouldn’t used words as harsh as ‘screwed over’ but agree with your sentiments. The AFC were simply looking out for their best interest and only offering Scott Welsh that deal was in their best interest.

Maybe they (the AFC) haven’t come out smelling like roses but I also believe that there was more than just football related matters associated linked into his 2008 contract that Scottie Welsh didn’t agree with, something along the lines of behaviour management.

John Reid publicly stated on 5AA at the time about the clauses AFC had for Welsh and he agreed to it but when he asked them to put it in his contract and if those were fulfilled then it would automatically trigger the 2nd year they declined. Reidy's words not mine.

Now anyone with half a brain can work out why the AFC refused to put it pen to paper, black on white. Especially considering what went on with Torney just a month or so earlier.

Well according to John Reid on 5AA at the time (and if you want to dig up the thread and read through it feel free) the AFC outlined the criteria and clauses to Welsh that included both perfomance related clauses and behavioural clauses to which Welsh agreed to and asked the AFC to put those black and white in his contract. John Reid said we didn't want to do that because "it was too hard". For someone that follows many different sport and is good mates with a handful of lawyers that specialise in contracts, there is no such a thing as "too hard" if you really want the player.

We wanted to get Scotty to sign a contract and trust as at our word that he would get another one if he did XYZ! If we were REALLY prepared to give him a 2nd year (1+1) we would have done it in a professional manner by including it in the contract just like any other professional club or organization out there.

There was absolutly no reason for Welsh to trust AFC here. Lets be honest here, if any of us were placed in the same spot as Welsh we would all do the same thing, especially since he just became a dad for the first time.

I am proud of my club and will support them but what they tried to pull here was just a low act. No professional club or organization should be run in that manner.

He is no different to some of our players in our final this year....one forward fired a shot...he also scored more goals this year than our leading goal kicker so i wouldnt stick in the boot too hard

He's a specialist forward with specialist forwards around him in Johnson and Murphy.

With Burton and Porps out injured our specialist forwards were?????? Gill????

That is the point Cappy. His departure has forced us to give game time to players who wouldn't have got it otherwise.

Added to that is his failure under pressure, illustrated by his shocker of a game tonight.

And that’s exactly why a few senior players on our list will be given their pink slips in 2 or 3 weeks time.

We are going nowhere with them in the team and 2 weeks ago was evidence of that.

so what you want another player who can't play under finals pressure?

thats 2 finals for the bulldogs with little output, maybe 3 from 3 but i missed the game they played against the swans.

We must have watched different games last year vs Hawthorn.

Thompson might have stuffed up that kick but without him we wouldn't have even been in a position to win the game. 34 possessions, 8 marks, 6 tackles, a ton of clearances and hard ball gets, he was sensational.

Mate one bad finals game doesnt say it all....and why single him out we have a few players that will be safe at the club that havent played well in finals...he was handy for them last week and the delivery wasnt great at times tonight but yea scotty had a stinker tonight but everyone has a bad day no matter what the sport/work/or facit of life

Yea the delivery was just first class to our forwards in out past finals campaigns And what is with the sour grapes towards him? Really he was left with no choice but to leave and played many years with the crows he is a completely different story to Hudson

I am struggling to remember one finals game he played for us where he stood out. I could be wrong but for some reason not many are standing out. And we have played 10 or 11 during his 8 year on the list.

hey fine by me, we can see from this year that he does **** all in finals, if you would like to prove he has done **** all in his career - thats your choice
