Saw on the channel nine news last night that Welsh will be out for at least 2 weeks after his groin pulled up sore after his trial for westies

Peter Curran was interviewed about it.

Does not look good and I think he will miss more than that.

It is such a shame as he is such an important player for us.

I guess the good news is that it is not OP.

Love the heading!!! Many of us wish we had the same problem!!:D

In all seriousness, it's lousy news because Welshy is such an important part of our forward line. Hopefully it's just a strain from too much effort first up that won't see him out for too long.

Could be worse Macca. Careys groin acts up again :D

We can cover the forwards and Scotty will be back in time.
Im just thankful our backmen arent in the same prediciment

When do we get D Schell back? I hope thats not laughter I hear

True that is at least one positive from this. Apparantly it is related to the OP operation though. Just hope we can get a fit Welshy back on the park soon.

Crows lose Welsh for up to five weeks

Adelaide forward Scott Welsh has a grade-two adductor strain and will be sidelined for three to five weeks.

It is another frustrating setback for the elusive goalkicker, who played just 13 of the Crows’ 25 premiership-season matches last year because of osteitis pubis.

Welsh strained the inside of a thigh playing part of a practice match for SANFL club West Adelaide last weekend, and scans on Wednesday confirmed the severity of it.

Adelaide communications manager Phil Harper said it was the third time Welsh had “jagged” the adductor during this pre-season preparation.

“Scott is going on a special fitness program now to make sure he is 100 per cent right before he attempts to play again,” Harper said.

The good news for the Crows is that Nathan Bassett, Tyson Stenglein and Andrew Crowell seem certain to be available for the Wizard Home Loans Cup semi-final against the Kangaroos at AAMI Stadium on Saturday night.

The trio moved freely during competitive training, including match practice, at AAMI Stadium on Wednesday.

Bassett (corked thigh), Stenglein (hamstring) and Crowell (hamstring) missed the cup quarter-final against West Coast in Darwin last Friday night.

Crowell went to Darwin but was a late withdrawal from the expanded squad of 26, leaving the Crows with 25 players, including seven on the interchange bench.

But, with the squad reverting to 24 this week, four players would have to be squeezed out to make way for Bassett, Stenglein and Crowell.

Adelaide’s match committee has a difficult job trimming the squad from the 28 who will be named on Thursday.

And with at least Mark Ricciuto (ankle) and Wayne Carey (hamstring) to resume in the next week or two, or in the opening-round clash with Fremantle at AAMI Stadium on March 30, trying to find a spot in the starting line-up will be hard work.

When this was put to ace utility player Tyson Edwards on Wednesday, he said: “When we keep winning, it makes it a bit harder as well, which is good, so it’s putting pressure on a lot of the senior guys, too, which is good also. The younger guys are playing some good footy, which is going to help us.”

He needs 1 on 1 treatment. I have offered my services for Mark Stevens and I am happy to put my name forward to help Scotty. If the club needs me to watch over the young man I am happy to assist. I think I might give Trevor Jacques a quick call.

At least it wasn't " Carey's groin acts up again".

Surely he was on this before the injury after his surgery?

I hope he hasn't been rushed back to quickly again.

our much vaunted injury recovery program is taking a battering early in the season.

Lets hope it gets better from here.

If we want to win the flag - we need Welsh fit.

Welshy is critical to our chances in 2003, as one of the best medium size forwards in the AFL. The recurring problems surrounding his groin are a real concern. I hope this isn't going to be a recurring problem like with say Dizzy. How come we can get Daniel Schell's OP problem sorted out, when it is Welshy we need back on the park. Get well soon!

Jars, you make a very good point about the quality of our medical staff.

I'll always assumed that our medico's were the absolute best but this year we've heard nothing but bad news on the injury front. What's the point of all these hob nob rehab facilities etc if we get no better results than St. Kilda. (no offence St. Kilda fans)

Hope we're not dropping the ball here but Carey, Welsh, and a few others seem to be taking a lot longer to get ready than they should. Either that or the footy club are feeding us a lot of BS.

I totally agee with you guys. If we are to really challenge for premiership this year we need all our guns fit and firing and that includes Welsh. I think its more of a bad luck than mismanagement.

I think we will be fine this year as far as injuries are concerned. Our medicos are known for good player management and they will be up there again this year.

Cheers
