I still don't understand why Ratten was appointed coach after 6 straight losses last year.

Poor tackling, poor fitness, poor endeavour. Those are the responsibilities of the coaching staff. At times you could see our players had the talent, but not the committment or desire to win the game. Pathetic.

ratten is a legend dude, don't knock him yet, richmond are far from a developed side yet!!! it takes time!!! and a willing coach ect. and he is!!!

You know I think part of it was in their heads coz Judd was out there...They seemed to not know how to play their own game, and probably expected Judd to wave a magic wand at some at them and ******....!

That's because it was never all Juddy...Cox, Kerr, Cousins, Stenglein, Braun....he didn't have a magic wand!

Nothing to do with inferior. If you're going to have a say (which is fair enough), be accurate. If i was going to blame anyone at Carlton, i would look at either the fitness advisers who talk to the coach or the coaching panel. Judd was serviceable but not anywhere near his standards. If there were other players not up to it on the ground fitness wise, whose issue is that? So in reality, you were beaten by the better team as Richmond played a fitter team, which ultimately ran over the top of you. It's only round one, if you've got the goods, you'll analyse the tapes and learn from it ie: when Fev is in the box seat to take a mark, keep the other ******* away from the contest and not cork the leg of your key forward.

Richmond played their very, very BEST & FITTEST team on the park for nearly three years tonight! And to be honest, they look pretty good and ordinary, and losing Brown and Richo in the next 2 to 3 years, you guys would be more impotent than Elton John at a Hustler Pool Party!

Bad luck fellas - would've been tough for a supporter to watch that second half... my observations (not worth much): your delivery to your forwards is horrid - worse than freo's service to pavlich. Hopefully Judd can spread some learnings there - even in the second half you see every one of his kicks into your 50 hit someone on the chest - but as for the others - ouch. And then your defence (including defensive ability of mids)... 22 games conceding over 100... no wonder you guys are frustrated. I'm just dreading (and praying) that we start ok this season (a bit of an unknown)... but yeah - its only game one - so stay with your boys and hope some growth comes of it. Best of luck for a better remainder of the season :thumbsu:

Yeah, but you could say that about most teams if you took away two or three key players. It was our fittest team since 2006 in reality, and like another poster said, if injuries were your excuse tonight, then welcome to Richmonds 2007. You're right, our bad was down right shit house tonight, but when we finally found some rythmn, we were too tall and too quick (plus we had an angry manchild in the back pocket). Don't worry about Tigers in 2010, you worry about Carlton in 2008. (i did like the Elton John tag. Nice).

Judd, Stevens, Hartlett, O'hAilpin, Hadley - all with injury affected preseasons. Another 4 walk up starts out injured.

You don't know enough about Carlton to comment and certainly don't need to comment on this board. It is our board, you can go tell your story elsewhere. We clearly ran out of legs in the second half.

How do you know i don't know enough about Carlton ?

And why can't i comment on this board ??

Your team has just done a pre-season, you should not have too many underdone players.

Whats going to happen half way through the season ? Will all these underdone players suddenly find form.

You lot need to take a good look at yourselves. By the way, your comments are welcome on our board.

just a question, is bluesrules a real carlton supporter? Just wondering because he just made a thread about having rich in sight and his sig says he loves tanking.

He created a thread last year on the Collingwood board supporting them to beat us.

As the thread title points out "We're still soft and crap!" Does it realy matter? Dont be to hard on your team if you are soft and crap, im sure Ratts will turn that around in a few years. Chin up, im sure you will get back some day:thumbsu:

As for the game, the biggest things I've noticed was:

1) Lack of pressure. Free men where everywhere in the 2nd half and did as they pleased.

2) The inability to stick our tackles. In tight situations we had plenty in the packs yet none of our players seemed to be able to tackle, even the smallest of Richmond players were easily able to shrug off our players and evade them quite easily. This in turn lead to them winning the ball out of the middle a lot. Why the hell can't we tackle? Is it technique? Mindset?

3) Our kicking skills were deplorable, no surprises there. In our purple patch during the 2nd we had something like 75% effective disposals, and we dropped off significantly.

4) Too Fevola focused - apart from Edwards who was having a crack, and Betts going in for the occassional crumb... who else was there?

5) Got slaughtered in the ruck... guess that was expected.

6) Lack of confidence. Really, some of our players need to see a shrink - when Richmond got a sniff and when we ****ed up our chances, heads were down. And they stood down, with the exception of a few players.

7) No one to stop Richo - I think we came into this match conceding that, but we could've done better. We really need an extra tall to drop back from time to time and plug those holes and block leads.

Just aslong as parrot can go away for a few months
i was gonna post all the over confident carlton comments over the last
few months
but u should feel bad enough
wont bother

So dissapointed after this evening. Moments of good play but all too often it was poor skills, weak tackling and no forward line. Richmond were able to run the ball out of our forward line with such ease in the second half.

And to cap off a great night, the metal clip on my membership lanyard broke some time during the game without me noticing, resulting in plastic card holder falling off so now I have lost the damn thing! :(
This exact thing happened to my son on the train before we even got the game. On the way up the escalator at flinders street we noticed it was missing. I quickly ran back to the train and a guy had picked it up in the carriage.

Yet again, we get out to a lead and fold like a pack of cards. Too many underdone players.

Of course we deliberately folded last year according to the masses but are just crap now. They will have their cake and eat it too and about a dozen of them will say we have started tanking already.

There is no logic with the hating masses.

Worst half I have seen in a long time from Carlton, players taking each other out up forward and down back, costing us goals at either end. There is also a reason why some of our players get a lot of the ball. The opposition let them because they turn it over far too much.

I have two nice things to say about Carlton.

Your avator & the stuff that comes out of a tap.

It was disappointing, we looked underdone. The lack of forward options and abysmal tackling pressure were the biggest issue for me. Tigers had many more influential players, we have a long way back to the top.

Being serious I thought Judd was your best tonight, Richmond just were harder at it, they chased harder and Richo is now the equal 12th goal kicker of all time now that is an acheivement.

All up a typical Carlton performance which means in about a forthnight they will play like flag contenders for they wouldn't want to peak early;).

Your comments confirmed it and you reiterated it.

And why can't i comment on this board ??
If you want to have a shot about making excuses, you are hardly paying respect on this board and this is the name of the game. You have less rights here so be constructive or don't bother.

Your team has just done a pre-season, you should not have too many underdone players.
We have had up to 12 players injured over the preseason. Some of them are VERY underdone. That is why you don't know much about Carlton.

Whats going to happen half way through the season ? Will all these underdone players suddenly find form.
Fitness, underdone players find FITNESS. It's not rocket science.

You lot need to take a good look at yourselves.
Thanks, I will give it the consideration it deserves.

By the way, your comments are welcome on our board.
If they are respectful they are, yes.

Actually, I'm happy our older blokes stood up that game. Make no mistake, those guys won us the game. If they keep playing to that level, that will allow the younger blokes to come on.

I think you might have to re-assess playing Judd. Moments of brilliance, but clearly not right.

Of course... even wallet said that he was underdone...

We should only be playing him for 75% of each quarter for the next couple of weeks, then start bringing him up to full matches.

And he has said himself, that he wouldnt be ready until about rnd 4

No matter what - if we are still losing to wooden spooners we are garbage. Thats all there is too it. The great talent we have brought into teh team has simply raised us up to mediocre. Without them we were total garbage - crap. Now with the addition of some great players we are mediocre.

I was as confident as the next person, always am, but resisted last years preseason pump up after such a dissappointing return.

It took me a long time to come to terms with how bad pagan was - now I am finally realising the same about our team.

We well be finishing in the bottom 4 for many years. not just one or two.

We have nothing coming through that will say otherwise. Stevens, Fev, houlihan have a maybe three years left - then we have Judd, wiate and kids - only one of whom (Murphy) has shown he may be something.

Is it our development ? Our facilities ? Our training ? Seriously no team can be this consistently bad year, after year, after year, without ANY improvement.

I was having a chat to David Cloke at my local, asking how Cam was going and Carlton in general. He thought a good target was 6 wins which I thought was a bit low - probably not to far off the truth after round one.

Round one is round one and we can't judge a season from it, lets have a hard look at round ten when teams start to gel.

I got there with my family at 1/2 time and ended up leaving midway through the last quarter in total digust . That was as poor a performance as I have ever seen , not keen to go any time soon although I no doubt will drag myself over the next few weeks .:thumbsd:

Probably worth missing next week, but make it for the Pies.

That said, I'd love to take St Kilda down a notch or two and I'll be there.
