Mountford best for mine. Love the way he goes about it, never gives up just chases and harasses and throws his body on the line. Ran across a Richmond lead up forward in the last, didn't know what was coming but he committed, took the hit and got the spoil. Great stuff.

Pruess is simply too good for this level. I'm impressed with his marking reads it well for a rugby convert.

Fordhams best game. Run and link up player, played his role nicely. Kicked 2 I think.

Zahuur. Shows aggression and strength. Fended off 2 tigers running down the wing and gets front and centre in the contest. Needs some polish though.

Neilson. Great game. Tough defender and smart footballer. Hurt his shoulder in the last when game was on the line and really didn't want to come off. Returned though. Like him alot.

Durdin. I think we need to forget him as a replacement for Tarrant. He is not a big body defender but does read the play well. I think he will play the Hanson roll of intercept marking and possibly switching forward. Played his best when it mattered today.

Spitter was spitter. Did what you would expect.

Anderson played a lead up half forward role and did it well. Kicked 2 I think and presented. Involved in lots of scoring drives. Drifted in and out but I think that position is what will happen.

Maj. Got better as the game went on. Had moments of oh wow but importantly got more involved around the ground just doing the basic stuff better as the game went on.

Hibberd to me is a bit vanilla. Doesn't do anything that stands out alot but he could have had 30 possies today. Seen him involved alot but nothing stood out.

Larkey. Still developing and lots to work with. Some good moments and a shocker with a running bounce from defence but it still should be encouraged. If he backs himself in its a good thing.

Quick summary of our North players. Bugger the stats, I have NFI. Just on what I saw:

Mountford: most influential player out there. Hard at it, does not quit. Can mark, can tackle.
Nielson: as I've said before, knows how to defend. Time and again he won 50-50s and got the ball going the other way.
Swallow: was good in the first half, a bit quieter in the 2nd. Typical game from him but not as good as we might hope.
Durdin: very solid down back. Some good marks and spoils. Continues his good form and seems to be good mates woth Nielson too.
Fordham: best I've seen him play. Big last quarter. Don't know if he'll make it but keep up that effort amd who knows?
Preuss: was a good game but not great. Needed to take a few more contested marks for mine.
Anderson: much better 2nd half after not doing much in the first. Good intensity and pressure. Probably got a rocket at half time.
Hibberd: solid game, provided good run but didn't notice him as much as the others.
Daw: Like some others, much better 2nd half. Had a good game overall. His ruck work was very good and he competed and chased like we've come to expect. Didn't do much wrong.
Taylor: pretty much invisible. Hardly noticed him.
Larkey: had an okay game, competed well.
Zurhaar: solid game, loves the contest, but needs to get more of it.

Good win, Werribee doing okay in the last few weeks.

The young blokes are going past Majak at a rate of knots.
Sadly it shouldn't be a surprise for blokes like Durdin or Nielson.

First and second round picks. Maj was a rookie. Mountford going past him is the strange one. Kid clearly has an insane workrate. Disappointing if he ends up going back home.

We win....a sign to come.... tonight as well?

You'd think Mountford would be close to getting a game. Prob will depend on how Clarke goes tonight.

Mountford: 1 and a bit years in the system

Durdin & Nielson: 2 and a bit years in the system

Majak: 7 and a bit years in the system

So a bit curious why you wrote Neilson off?
Personally am a bit dubious of durdin

Just got updated by starting about 5 pages back in the 3rd quarter. A great way to get a feel for the tempo and atmosphere of what turned out to be an important close win.

Thanks heaps for the progress scores and commentary, guys. Not to mention the summaries for the North-listed players at the end - a really interesting read.

Point taken, but my contention is probably more around the well-travelled path that Durdin and Nielson grew up playing the game, while Maj didn't.

As athletically gifted as the man most assuredly is, there is always going to be a certain distinction drawn between those who grew up with a footy in their hands, and those who didn't.

The knee. Combined with not really hearing a lot about him, question marks over his kicking and his height.

I thought he would be a genuine chance to be delisted at the end of this season. I am happy that he is playing well and if he ends up being a player for us it will be a huge benefit to our defensive stocks. But I can't jump back on now. I hope he feeds me my words.
