I dont care how old he is he is performing, bests in every game he has played. He deserves his shot.
Looking at this it would be good to keep a running tally in this thread of how many times our reserves players appear in the bests. Might have a shot at it over my uni break.

Like the look of that forward 6 and with McKay, Wagner and Simpkin to be back in 3 weeks we are well stocked for forward options of all sizes.

Cupboard looks bare in defence though - Durdin and Neilson, maybe Hibberd -no small/mid options at all. We have Sam Wright to come back but that's about it.

Bolstering the defence looks essential come this draft/trade period - we are obviously targeting quality mids but i hope we are also looking at defensive options of all sizes as well. Another Marley would be handy:thumbsu:

I'm happy to take your point on board as I haven't seen much of the kid.

However, like certain others, I am suspicious that you may be viewing this through the rose colored glasses of youth.

Youth is ridiculously overrated by some folks around here.
Forget youth. We know Swallow's strengths and his limitations, and sadly, he's not likely to get any better.

The question I ask is, does playing Swallow make it more likely that we'll win a flag in the near future?

Strange question.

Okay, it's irrelevant. I am only concerned with winning this week.

Are you one of the "play the kids and they will develop quicker" people?

I'm a person who thinks that Swallow is not in our top 15 players, that he's not likely to be a key part of our next premiership team, and that, playing him, more often than not, makes the team less competitive.

We also have other players, who, IMHO, more often than not, make the team more competitive. So, why not play them.

If they are young, and haven't played many games, we can reasonably expect some improvement, at least in terms of consistency.

In the end, if they're not good enough, if they don't make the team consistently more competitive, we delist them and try again.

I'm no different. Like you, I want to beat St Kilda. Like you, I want to win a premiership, ASAP.

I don't by the youth thing. They aren't ready until they are ready. AFL exposure or not.

Hence the reason I wanted Spitta in. He didn't get in. We will see what happens.
